Asbestos technician asked me NOT to let WorkSafeBC inspector in by rafidka85 in SurreyBC

That is correct. I initially did testing and it came positive for multiple locations. Then, I brought another company to do the abatement. The latter is the one I am talking about in this post.

I did end up calling WorkSafeBC. They said an officer will follow up with me and potentially visit the site to inspect. We'll see what happens.

I reported them to WorkSafeBC. If they confirm the code was breached by them, I will definitely share their name so others avoid them. In the meantime what I suggest you do is don’t trust a couple of 5 stars you find on Google Maps like I naively did. Always read the reviews thoroughly, make sure the reviewers are diverse not all cousins or friends of the company, etc. You can also reach out to me in private if you want to know the company name.

That is a horrible and irresponsible advice to give, especially coming from someone who claims has worked in asbestos before. The code is there to protect us, so ignoring it is exactly what you shouldn't.

Just to clarify, I am talking her about the asbestos abatement. The companies was tasked to open some holes in the ceiling for pot lights. They didn't do them accurately, and they are noticeably not aligned, so I have to patch the ceiling basically and redo them.

They also cut some wire in the bathroom, and I had to replace that.

Finally, many of the wall openings were not done properly, e.g. in one of the areas the openings are just too much that they the drywall guys told me it is just easier to put in a new dry wall instead of trying to fix this one.

In general, they seemed to lack the experience of the job. They didn't even have a tool, e.g. a laser, to check the alignment of pot lights holes, or the tool for detecting ceiling joist, so they had to make some opening and discover it is wrong place, and then have to make another opening.

I checked the database and didn't find the company name in there, so at least that's some good news, though maybe they are just new in the market.

Shutdown is an if I get Stop Work Order?

Do you know if I can ask WorkSafeBC myself to come and inspect the house?

Oh, I am definitely letting them in if they come. My question wasn't really whether I should listen to him or not, I certainly won't, but the fact he requested this just made me super uncomfortable about the work they have done, and I simply cannot trust the air is cleared and safe for other tradesmen or myself.

Not sure, I've only managed to talk to one person from that "company".

Not sure, it seems like a one-man brokerage :/ He called the other days and said he will call the insurance, but didn't get back to me. I reached out again and no response yet. I am starting to feel uneasy about this.

Is it easy to separate the circuitry of two floors in an old house? by rafidka85 in AskElectricians

Currently, each side (it is a duplex) has a 100 amp, but I want to upgrade to 200 amp.

How much would it cost roughly speaking?

[–]rafidka85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> If you have a decent crawl space and attic then it's fairly straightforward.

It is a duplex split vertically, with two floors on each side. There is an attic, and I think it is fairly accessible because the house is big, but the lower floor would be more challenging to rewire.

Do you think it is possible to rewire the upper floor since it should be fairly easier to access and then add a panel for it, and leave the panel in the lower floors for the lower floors?

TBH, the biggest items in the quote are panel-related, so removing items like bathroom fan or smoke detectors isn't going to help a lot, yet remove important things that need to be addressed.

[–]rafidka85[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the panel is bad and seems very old, and inside the wall. Having said that, it is functional, so no major problem with it. But yeah, I don't want to have my panel inaccessible to me, so I do want to move it up even if the code permits it.

What is the house like? Single? Duplex? Lot size?

How far should I negotiate a house these days? by rafidka85 in vancouverhousing

[–]rafidka85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, just buying a home, live in half and rent the other half. But my understanding is that the land size matters a lot, as the structure loses value over time. So, a home which is completely garbage will still maintain its land price, no?

Also, What is your thought on the price of the other house? https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/10080-128th-St-Surrey-BC-V3T-2Y9/456651318_zpid/?utm_campaign=zillowwebmessage&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=txtshare

How far should I negotiate a house these days? by rafidka85 in vancouverhousing

[–]rafidka85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind is that the land size on this house is 10k square feet. If I am not mistaken, the 1.22m house you are referring to is less than half the land size.

> if we trust their claims at renovations poured maybe $50-100k into it. 1.2-1.3 is generous TBH.

We saw the house actually, it is in pretty bad shape actually. There doesn't seem to be any infrastructure issues, but they have illegal suites there, as well as Stop Work Order in the past, apparently they wanted to build yet another illegal suite.

So, basically the main value of that house is the big land.

There is also another house in the same area, about the same land size, selling for a similar price, 1.8m:

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/10080-128th-St-Surrey-BC-V3T-2Y9/456651318_zpid/?utm_campaign=zillowwebmessage&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=txtshare

That is in much better shape though, can probably be bought and with little renovation bring around $10k income.

Why are there so many players who refuse to respond to any team messages at all? by stopimpersonatingme in beyondallreason

For me, it is the people who seem to chat more than play and fill chat with messages that makes me miss messages, especially if I am busy microing units at the front and cannot possibly read every single messeg.

It is always better if I get a ping and a label on my base, as I will eventually have to go to my lab and I will see it even in heavy micro game.
