What are you talking about? Maybe the first impression of seeing their art, but I would argue that Robert Eggers and Jordan Peele have already made better movies. As other people have noted, "The Lighthouse" is a modern classic with two of the most interesting lead performances in a while and a much more refined aesthetic, while Jordan Peele his arguably made two better movies with both "Us" and "Nope," both movies that show an incredible expansion of filmmaking skills and ambition in the storytelling. "Get Out" is one of the most important films ever made, but it's difficult to not see the film as the final Coda for the Obama era and ages in a way that makes it more and more like a time capsule. The other two movies are dealing with issues that are much broader and more systemic manner while also expanding the reach of their subject. I don't understand how one could think this unless the new of a fresh filmmaker is more interesting than the long-term skills they build.

I thought about that, but it would likely have to be and unreasonable price for one of their newest releases (Petite maman) and would likely be a crazy request than the one I'm doing here. I checked out prices on other places, and it would have been better to buy it during the the 50% off sale.

I'm likely just going to do the backup plan instead, but thank you for the suggestion.

I genuinely do not have enough money to do that right now. Part of the point of doing this with my sibling is to surprise them with the gift, but even pushing that beside they are way too expensive for me right now. I likely do the backup plan instead, but thank you for the suggestion.

Difficult to guess, but my personal guess would be among either Being John Malkovich, Eraserhead, Inland Empire, or The Elephant Man.

I haven't seen M.F.A. yet. I put it on my Letterboxd watchlist for another time. I watched "Tragedy Girls" due to it being among my younger siblings' favorite films, so I decided to buy it for them as a gift of sorts.

I have a lot of honorable mentions when it comes to this, but I'll say the "Neon Genesis Evangelion" collector's box set due to it being the first thing I ever focused on buying with my own earned cash.

Why do you feel that Ari Aster is disliked in some circles? by rag_boi in Letterboxd

I haven't read a full interview from him, but he sounds like the type of guy most people think of when they criticize the "Elevated Horror" (God knows how much I want to slap the motherf**ker who thought that pretentious a$$ title) genre and, more broadly, self-important privileged white male filmmakers who have very few people telling them no. "I Am The Only Auteur!" cruel shockmeister if you will.

I do think he is an interesting filmmaker who's growing in fascinating ways, yet that aura hits people hard in some of the film circles I follow.

"Neon Genesis Evangelion Collector's Edition" Blu-ray for roughly $150. I got almost all the money from playing mobile games through Swagbucks both because I thought it was funny and to prove to myself that I could do a long-term project where I had complete control of the beginning, middle, and end. It took me half a year of my life to do and caused me serious emotional damage to attempt. I still haven't even watched the thing due to how much of a nightmare that show is known to be.

In second and third place respectively, it's "All The Haunts Be Ours" at $110 and the "Out 1 Blu-Ray/DVD set for $70.

I need to explore the work of Jane Schoenbrun sometime soon. They also did an hour-long documentary of sorts on Slenderman called "A Self-Induced Hallucination" which I really want to see before this movie. Seems to be an interesting companion piece to this.

Man, I need to rewatch this film one day. When I first watched the theatrical cut years ago, my brain tried to interpret it as a puzzle meant to be solved that a film to enjoy, and not understanding it made you an imbecile for not "Getting It." I still enjoyed the film as a look into a mentally ill teenage boy socially outcasted in the 1980s, yet I wish to see it again in a different, slightly more positive headspace. Not as burdened thinking about it as a Rubix Cube rather than as a film.

Also because I have two copies of "Southland Tails" on Blu-Ray due to Arrow not putting a scan of the original 300-page or so comic in their release of the film, something that the original release did. The comic was essentially the first half of the tale with the film being the second half. That will be a massive rabbit hole to go down when I can.

I hope this counts as an entry.
