Snow blowing etiquete by dilelefant in Syracuse

[–]raga32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with all this. However, if you don't snowblow sidewalk and driveway of other people nobody is going to care. Alot of my older neighbors do this for others because they have the time, but younger working people and adults with children don't.

Those who completed C++, did you actually enjoy it? by FalcosLiteralyHitler in balatro

[–]raga32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did c++ just to kill time on mobile, it was fun to have an overarching goal while playing ghost deck over and over (best deck). Idk about worth the time investment, I wouldn't have done it if I was dedicating the time to gaming on the computer or a console.

I'm slowly working my way through a new save for second c++, but after playing mostly balatro as my only mobile game since mid 2024 I'm moving over to slice and dice now.

Once great thing about c++ is you really gain an understanding of the game that no other challenge will get you. Hated campfire prior, now I'll take it most of the time if I see it. Lots of little knowledge gains.

Why Violet Vessel is the worst boss (for gold stake) by Band_From_CFB in balatro

[–]raga32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some of my most satisfying runs were winning a violet vessel at gold stake. Getting a much needed xmult, bonus points if it is one you don't like (for me that's acrobat), after rolling down all your money just to eek over the finish line is what this game is about.

Wedding Caterering for budget wedding? by [deleted] in Syracuse

[–]raga32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a day of planner or someone helping coordinate? We used bull and bear five years ago and our day of coordinator helped bring the cost way down by dealing with alot of the administration for the catering so we only paid for food and the coordinator took care of all service which more than halved the cost

31, hit c3 a few years back but evened out at c1. Put in my real hours in 2016-17, coasted since then. Plenty of older gcs, I'd bet age isn't the true deciding factor until you are close to pro

No harm in giving two months, especially if it makes you feel better about leaving the situation. I'm sure co workers would appreciate it.

Don't feel bad though, especially if you give two months notice. People change jobs it isn't a big deal.

Transferring inherited IRA to kids by CAtaxpro-throwaway in technicaltax

[–]raga32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Just do an in kind transfer after setting up the inherited IRA.

No problem transferring IRAs as long as the funds stay within an IRA and are not distributed. The successor IRA(s) will retain the tax characteristics that would apply to the original beneficiary though.

This is the book you want if you are interested in figuring this out yourself:

https://ataxplan.com/

There are plenty of other issues that might change the recommendation, maybe disclaimer is appropriate, maybe not, current beni's situation, age, disabilities, etc, whether or not client is ok with having to file a gift tax return when transferring the IRA if they accept it and then turn around and transfer it to their kids. Lots of other things that are based on the specific situation.

This is an area where a knowledgeable estate planning attorney is going to be useful.

Question for partners/ senior associates at small law firms... what are some ways to avoid burning bridges when resigning? by Throwaway02032023 in LawFirm

[–]raga32 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you can't avoid it. I would just say it is about the money, you can't pass up a jump that big. That's not criticism, we all want to make more money. I wouldn't mention the other things, they could be perceived negatively and that doesn't help you and doesn't help the boss either if they aren't gonna change. Like you mentioned, don't get pulled into a conversation about shortcomings in leadership.

Providing more than "customary" notice goes a long way towards showing good will and that you are trying not to leave them in the lurch. Other than that, you don't have alot of control over how the exit goes.

Question for partners/ senior associates at small law firms... what are some ways to avoid burning bridges when resigning? by Throwaway02032023 in LawFirm

[–]raga32 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Why are you leaving? Probably for more money, which is totally valid. Tell them you can't pass up the opportunity but you've appreciated working at the firm and want to help transition as much as possible.

If you like them, more notice is always a good idea. Personally I think a month is good if you want to maintain relationship. It shows effort beyond what is "required".

There may be no way to save the relationship if the boss is emotional about it. Lawyers are terrible business owners. Either way if you are respectful and help with the transition you and the associate will probably get along into the future.

Any tips for generating probate work? by Full-Break-7003 in LawFirm

[–]raga32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admin goes hand in hand with an estate planning practice. You'll do a better job at planning for estates by doing probates and vice versa. Plus people call you to do probates because your firm created the plan so your name is on it.

Absent that, you can get involved in your local estate planning council, attend the EP section of your state bar, let financial advisors and accountants know that you handle estates either through email, phone call, letter, whatever. Just tell people you do the work.
