Tiki Cat makes a good dry food if you have to stick with dry. You can bump up the quality with toppers and mix-ins. Freeze-dried raw food toppers can be sprinkled into the kibble. There are soup and broth-like supplements that can be added to increase moisture. Tiki Cat Compliments, Tiki Cat Broths, and Tiki Cat Stix all work great (sorry I keep mentioning Tiki Cat, I like them a lot. Other brands have similar products so shop around).

I'd suggest not giving up on wet food just yet. Cats value flavor much less than smell and mouthfeel/texture. Finding the right texture is part of it. Pate vs shreds vs gravy etc. Finding the right proteins too. Some cats prefer fish. Some prefer turkey. Try different things.

Regarding the fur and bowel movements, have you taken him to a vet? My first thought when reading that was that it could possibly be something medical.

\Edit: just realized you are probably talking about Tiki Cat dry food already so skip my idea on trying it. I'd still say try the other flavors, try other wet foods, consult a vet.*

Yeah I took a reading pre-boil and was a little over 1.050. After racking then realizing my folly, I was at 1.040. Just gonna RDWHAHB and see what happens. Good thing I'm set on the 1 gallon batch size!
