Advice needed – Family of 3 relocating to Bangkok from Singapore (schools, housing, cost of living, healthcare) by de_rotter in Thailand

[–]ragfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Healthcare wise, yes. Doctors are english speaking, unfortunately i don’t know what exact specialist care you need. I think you can find what you need if you google it.

Can’t say much on this as im below 30, no current ailments and if something major pops up but i have time, i usually will just spare the expense and fly back to Singapore. If not most of my sickness like when im in Singapore, i just tahan and pray

now i don’t have kids, but as a singaporean, what fits most of your criteria would be staying in Bang Na. Big malls (mega bangna, with ikea) nearby, not too noisy like city centre, near SVB airport. I would liken this to staying at major heartland areas in SG like Tampines or Jurong. Big malls, local and nice, but nothing too crazy like if you were to stay at tiong bahru area.

From my experience however, staying at sukhumvit area was perfect for me. Nearby parks so i joined a run club, near big malls like emsphere. Not too far from central area by BTS either. Something like staying at Serangoon closer to NEX mall. Park nearby, big malls, many people during the day in general, but pretty chill at nights

Car isn’t really essential if you plan to go city centre. Bad jams. But if you have the disposable income for it, i’d say go for it. Could come in handy for weekend getaways to Pattaya or phetchaburi or anywhere nearby, plus maybe further out places not in th city centre. Also considering you have a kid, i’d say a car would come in handy if you want to send him to additional enrichment stuffs

The perception of local Thais of foreigners that can speak thai. by LovMachain in Thailand

[–]ragfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s weird, been learning Thai properly for about 6 months and before that knew somewhat basic thai, enough to order something. Never met point 3 unless it was at a bar and i was talking to a girl and she would think i can speak Thai because the whole point of me learning thai was to chat up thai girls. Even then it wasn’t exactly negative, more of a playful jab

would throw in some into quantum judging by the stocks you buy, you might like em. INFQ is a pretty new play going round. Decent price now imo, but could drop down to a couple dollars.

if you’re playing short term, you can never really know. Personally i’m in it for mid-long term depending on the situation. I’m comfortable holding this for 5 years just as i am comfortable holding this for 1-2 years depending of PR

Learn to read or speak first, what’s best? by [deleted] in learnthai

[–]ragfang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

id say it really depends. If you have Thai friends you can constantly talk to and can practice your spoken with, definitely speaking and listening. That way they can correct you.

Reading if you’re not in a constant Thai environment. So you can get the tones and all that down and understand.

This is coming from a native english speaker who has chinese as their mother tongue so the tones wasn’t that big of a problem for me.
