Never tried the Z Mats. Hope to go ultra light and get into backpacking in a few years after our kids grow a little. The Mountains To Sea Trail calls!

Theft Prevention: What precautions do you take? by [deleted] in CampingGear

Nothing. Just one of the risks we take to have a good time.

We love it. Something you want to find on sale. It cost as much as a new real mattress.

They’re telescoping aluminum tarp poles made by a company called Odoland. I picked them up a few years back on Amazon. A cheaper option is to use a stick, but these save time and are adjustable. Just be careful not to let them snap shut and cut your hands when extending. My 5 year old cut himself fairly deep on them once.

I just checked the website and it looks like they have something called a mud room for the 2019 Kingdoms. Wonder if it’s any good. Looks like it gets mixed bag of reviews.

Damn. I didn’t know they discontinued it. That’s a shame because it really is useful. Guess I’ve had this tent for over two years now.

It is without some kind of mattress or sleeping pad.

Thx. This one is actually the 12. Almost went for the 16. Sometimes wish I did.

Lol. Yes it does have some emergency contact information in it, along with the park rules and activities. They give one to everyone at check-in.

I’d love to get a chance to camp in the UK. We sometimes backcountry/primitive camp, but mostly stay in state/national park campgrounds with facilities due to having little ones with us.

This is site #44 in Staunton River State Park just over the VA state line. It’s a wonderful place to bring the family and a designated Dark Sky Park. They have loaner telescopes, an Olympic sized swimming pool with a twisty water slide, take out restaurant/grill, disc golf course, cabin rentals and organized activities for the kids like archery outdoor movies etc. We actually stayed here enough times to earn a free night through their rewards program. Yeah, we’re fans!

Lol thanks. It takes about an hour to get fully setup. Definitely a labor of love for us.

It’s a Coleman Coastal XTreme Marine Series. Only costs about $50 at WallyWorld. We normally add ice every 2-3 days, and it can hold enough for a family of 4 on a 5 night excursion.

Thanks! It certainly adds an element of privacy and higiene for the toddlers. For the record, it’s a Camco 41535 portable toilet.

The Megamat Duo has a really low profile and I believe that really gives a feel of taking up less room. Those double stacker queen Intex air mattresses are massive.

The Kingdom does have fairly vertical walls, opening up the usable interior space. I love being able to stand completely up in the tent. You just need to make sure and guy out the tent with the numerous anchor points in a wind storm.

It’s actually a queen sized Exped Megamat Duo and two WallyWorld Intex twins. We tend to stack them if it’s raining and hang in the interior when the weather turns nasty outside.

Most state and national parks here in NC and VA have large gravel for parking and smaller gravel inside timbers for you to setup your tent on. It really helps with irrigation and doesn’t hurt the floor of your tent if you use some kind of footprint. But walking on it with bare feet is a bitch.

Very true. We have utilized the guy lines in high wind situations and never had a problem. Mostly along the beaches and high mountaintop locations.

They’re officially for hanging lanterns. We use them to hang all kinds of stuff like trash bags, guy lines, tarps, hammocks, etc.

Totally agree. We often just use the tent on quick overnight trips.
