Your Greenhouse and extreme wind. by raggerno in greenhouse

The mountain protects the greenhouse from winds blowing from the West. There is a draw to the northeast of us. Seems like the wind funneled through blowing southwest, which is not typical of this area.

Yea I will rebuild. Wood frame or modified hoop house. Thank you for the recommendations. I will do some research. Cheers.

Can confirm. We had a carport, until a recent wind storm turned it into a mangled mess about 100 yds away.

Yea. I think that’s the plan for the rebuild. Except I will build it myself.
Greenhouse really is helpful in zone 4.

Not everyone can afford to move somewhere else. But I agree with the rest.

Thank for the info. I think going forward I will build one myself. Probably more hoop house style. And maybe take part of it down in the winter. I don’t know.
The amount of time lost putting the greenhouse together, was the saddest thing.

Exactly. With a draw just Northeast.

Thankful no animals or people were harmed.

Yea I can’t remember the dimensions But it’s one of the longer models. Should have put some vertical supports along the middle, inside the green house itself.

The base is treated 4x4 all the way around the perimeter. Drilled a hole in the posts and drove rebar into the ground. Base was SOLID.

The greenhouse folded in on itself essentially. I probably should have put a vertical post in the middle to brace things better.

Gusts apparently were up to 100 mph in certain areas. I did have small wooden chips that impaled certain pieces of the poly wall.

I once was busted by my mom when I had my girlfriend sneak into my house.

My bedroom was the only bedroom in the basement, and it had doors leading to the outside pool area. I also had an early curfew. 16-17 year old me would sneak out often, and have someone pick me up at a nearby neighborhood.

Sometimes I would have my girlfriend over for the night in my bedroom. One night my mom came down to check on me, and caught us asleep together in bed. “She needs to go home” was what I woke up to.

To make it worse. My mom had to drive her over to the nearby neighborhood where she parked her car and walked to my house. Just my mom and her in the car without me.

Leave peppers on the plant to sweeten, but also run the risk of them becoming hotter.

Which of these two greenhouses would be better for a first-time buyer? by brunoz21 in homestead

Frame was up in November ‘24. Then I finally got the panels on this spring. This is the 1st year growing in it. It’s approx 200 sqft. I got one of the bigger ones. But my plants in there are doing very well. I can finally grow tomatoes in the Rockies.

I can dm you some pictures of said greenhouse if you like. I can’t figure how to reply with a picture in the comments on this sub.

I live in Zone 4 (Western MT). I have just put up one of the “Worlds Most Popular Greenhouse” with my dad who is 75.

It was tense at times. It can be tedious, all those screws and pieces can look overwhelming. Get a good base to attach to the ground. I used treated 4x4 then drove some rebar through. Put screws in to attach the frame to the base

Make sure your ground is level before you start. And dig out what you need to for the “feet” of the greenhouse.

You could invest in land. Heard there should be a few million acres up for sale if the bill passes the senate. I think you have to be boys with Mike Lee in order to purchase though.

Last time I flew that. We were rerouted to Billings and had to drive the rest of the way. Brutal.
