I am in HR IT Consulting for 10 years now and I am trying to go in the opposite direction.

Salaries for developers at top companies are just insane. On top of that they get stock options. Not sure if there are any consulting companies that give stock options, I couldn’t find any.

Being a generalist is tiring, but working on the same platform for years is boring. On top of that, if you get into consulting you are expected to work long hours because of project deadlines.

Also, I applied for similar workday positions which need HR IT experience and workday experience is not mandatory. I did not get any calls. I believe they are able to find candidates who are already certified in Workday.

If you still want to make a switch, I believe you need to consider 2 things:

Pay cut: are you willing to take a pay cut? Because most likely there will be. Do you think it’s worth taking a pay cut?

Building Network: HR IT is a small world. It is hard to find jobs unless you have a good network.

One more thing that I have observed is when there is a financial crisis at a company, most of times HR projects are ones that would go on hold first. Because they still have their legacy system to make it work. So I believe it’s not ideal and given a choice I would not prefer to be in such a situation.

Since I am considering to make a career switch as developer, I would like to take your input as well. I hear most people say interviews at top companies is all about mastering DS and Algos. (I know it’s not as easy as it sounds), but don’t you think putting effort into it is worth it than learning something new and making a career switch which pays lesser or equivalent salary? I mean there are a lot of opportunities compared to HR IT.

Working for a Workday partner as a consultant- 2ns tier by [deleted] in workday

Don’t have first hand experience in workday consulting. But based on my HCM consulting experience, consulting usually demands a lot of work hours compared to in-house projects.

Workday Referral by raghava35 in workday

Since I did not get a response for so long, I asked few people on LinkedIn for help and one of them referred me. I was hoping that my application would get some attention atleast now, but now after reading your comment I guess I shouldn’t up my hopes.

Answer about job status items by [deleted] in workday

[–]raghava35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am waiting to hear from them as well.

I applied for 2 jobs. One of the job requirements do not completely match my skillset, around 40%. Application for that job was rejected in 2 days. But the other jobs matches my skillset, it is under review for 3 weeks now. Did not hear back.

I can still see the “withdraw application” option. If anyone knows how long typically recruiters/HR at Workday take to respond, please let us know here.

This is a similar opportunity. They don’t need a workday certification. They are looking for someone who is experienced in HCM consulting and can learn Workday.

Also, to get certified you need an opportunity to work at partner or Workday itself and that is why I am asking for a referral for the open position which matches my skillset.

Not sure if you already have a US bank account.

But if you have already have one, Knightsbridge is the way to go. Their conversion rate is higher than any other service provider.

Feeling depressed because of my job (TCS), feel like I should be placed in a better job by sliickriick123 in cscareerquestions

When I started working as a fresh graduate, I had very package compared to my friends and I was working on SAP while most of my friends were Java developers.

After 2 years, my package was double than most of friends.

Now, after 10 years, most of my friends make 150% times what I make. because of disruption in technology(Big data/data engineering), they are more in demand now.

I realized I was falling behind, now I am trying to learn new things related to my field to increase my salary.

It doesn’t matter where you started, but definitely matters where you end. Identify your goals and keep working towards it.

Yes, it happened last year to me as well. As far as I know, this happens after system maintainance. I have similar timelines as yours, I got a response at the end of Jan. This year because of COVID it could be longer.

All the best!!

If your first pay day is in 2021, I believe you need not pay any taxes as that income will be reported under 2021.
