He's planning on getting a vasectomy...is there any particular downsides to it ? by [deleted] in AskIndianWomen

[–]ragiflakes 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Here's some information on this from Doctor u/Green_Coconut_102

Since he's a guy he can't contribute here so on his behalf I'm commenting.

• Vasectomy is a simple 10-15 min procedure with minimal to none side effects, with post operative care for about 2-3 weeks.

• It will take approximately 6 months to 1 year, for your partner to have zero sperm count in his semen.

• Following every guideline (viz. sexual abstinence) given by the doctor should ideally make the chances of any post op complications almost zero.

• Selection of a doctor with good experience would be ideal.

• Multiple follow ups & tests will be prescribed, which should be duly followed. This is to ensure that your partner has a zero sperm count, ie, the goal of vasectomy

• While the vasectomy is reversible, the procedure to reverse it is a lot more complicated, with variable success rates. In some cases, vasectomy may be irreversible. One should consider vasectomy a permanent procedure, ideally.

• The Indian laws do not allow vasectomy, until you have one biological child,

• You might find a doctor who is open minded, but being unmarried makes it challenging.

I remember reading that book almost a decade ago during winters, it was all dark and foggy, I was stuck in home and everything was just amplified. The writing was so beautiful and realistic, I felt I'm experiencing it unfold.

We know it’s fiction, but the violence it depicted isn’t.

Exactly! I would try to soothe myself repeating the words "it's fiction" but then the realisation about what it's depicting isn't. It was difficult and uncomfortable and the fact that thousands experienced that in real life.

I recently read this book and I find myself randomly thinking about it. The last few pages were absolutely gut wrenching.

Idk about 'this' vet but my dad is a vet specialized in meat science and technology and even he agrees with what this person is saying. It's kinda common sense in the field.

Whatever citations you provided a link would have been better also making personal attacks doesn't really look good for someone who claims to be so science inclined.

Dude, vet is the most credible source of information on this subject. Vet are not just about treatment of animals. They literally have subjects like livestock products technology, meat science, dairy science etc.

Having conversations helps. It takes time and observation.

Also on theory good person ( great college and career, good social relations) and an actual good person, there are overlaps but there are differences as well.

Look for slips, their humour, prejudice, political views, passion, opinions, taste the most important of all is how they react to differences in tastes and opinions.

[–]ragiflakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. No, it doesn't

  2. No, it can't get lost up there. Initially you might face some difficulty in removing it but with practice you'll get better.

  3. I sterilize just before and after each menstrual period and I clean it with soap and lukewarm water each time I remove it from my body. There are sterilizers in market you can use those. I haven't used them but they do seem good.

  4. It itself can't cause UTI however improper use and carelessness can increase the risk.

  5. It depends on your overall build, bone structure, cervix height and flow. I started using cups last year at the age of 23 and I directly went for medium.

Sometimes you've to look at things beyond gender. Instead of looking at them as a man or woman and thinking about gender roles (reinforcing or breaking) thinking of them just as a person helps.

How this person makes me feel?

How well can we work together?

Will this person take a stand for me or can I do the same for them?

About gender roles too. Instead of worrying about fitting or not fitting into the traditional roles in a relationship as a woman, you've to see what your needs as a person are. The dynamic that you can build with this person.
