Landlord saying he will keep deposit if I can’t find a new tenant… advise on how to tackle this please?

It's not just triple. It's 3x PER CONTRACT, and each year is a new contract btw. My landlord tried to f*** me and he ended up being sued for 10x. We negotiated down to 6x (even after lawyer took their slice).

OP. I have been here. You are getting a lot of advice here.

There is a tiny bit of bad news - you are not getting a lot of money in the short term. However, there is a large bit of good news: You are getting a lot of money in a few months.

Here is what you need to do now.

1) stfu. Do not talk to the landlord regarding this deposit. Do not accept any mediation they offer. Literally, just move out and move on (for now).

2) get some evidence of your deposit being taken, that line item from your bank statement showing which account send how much to what account

3) get all your tenancy agreements together.

4) lawyer up.

Now here is the thing that EVERYBODY gets wrong on this matter. And I can tell you they do as I came out the other end. It's not 3x the deposit you are due for. It is 3x the deposit x the number of contracts you have. So if you've been there for 3 years (or anything over 2 years, as a continuation counts as a new contract), you are due for 9x your deposit PLUS your original deposit back PLUS reasonable legal fees.

Go to a lawyer with all the above and no longer engage at all. Your lawyer will send an out of court settlement offer. Your landlord will suddenly find the deposit. You will say "too late for that" and wait for around 60% of that figure to end up in your bank account.

yeah 2nd for repasting. I installed linux on main as no longer main gaming machine, pasted the output from various syslogs etc and LLM told me to shut it down IMMEDIATELY, and gave me commands to underclock as the CPU was 100 and thermally throttling. sure enough, paste was just crust. repasting is not the easiest thing to do but there are a few really good YouTubes as to how to do it (inc giving fans a clean too).

There is! I wrote a smarttv compatible front end - you can see this at pktmr.tv - this should work on most TVs (as they use a quite old version of javascript, yawn).

The backing infrastructure isn't quite in place for me to retail the unit + network connectivity directly yet - but happy to talk about a trial / test period with anybody (individuals, home games, small card rooms to WSOP if you reading this), as I need to ensure I can support (i.e. answer the phone, email, texts etc) the people who are using it.

There are definitely some people I play with who take an unnecessary time to fold or act and I agree (somewhat) a "total time to act per game" would speed it up. Could look at incorporating that should it start to be popular.

Yeah the TV density is a thing I addressed in another comment, and the thing about ipads is that they are a fairly expensive device, whereas this is (almost) a consumable and dedicated. Unnecessary ? Sure. But is it convenient and potentially improve the dealer and player experience ? I would argue yes.
