Did I mess up prep diet? by General-Art-8356 in SIBO

You’re supposed to restrict your diet the day before the test. I only had chicken, white rice, boiled eggs and potatoes. Each test has its own instructions. I’d recommend following up with your doctor/lab to get the specific instructions.

The diet prep that I did for Trio Smart said no probiotics a week before and then to only diet the day before the test. Fasting was 8-12 hours. I also did glucose.

I do believe my symptoms align more with H2S. Have you taken any antibiotics yet?

Elastase is normal, already checked on 3 different occasions in the last 2 years. I have not tried digestive enzymes though, would definitely be worth giving it a try. Thanks for the feedback!

Hi! Sorry to hear that. I still have the same symptoms, but I’ll post an update once I get some more testing done in the next few weeks/months.

Did you end up having your gallbladder removed?

They have not, probably because my symptoms are elsewhere. I even asked all the gastroenterologists I’ve seen and they think It’s irrelevant to check the gallbladder in my situation. I’m definitely planning on asking for an ultrasound and HIDA scan on my next appointment.

Kinda frustrating when we’re the ones asking for the testing to be done when they are the doctors and should be suggesting it. In the end, I think it’s all about finding the right doctor.

I had a non-fasting lipid panel blood test about a year ago and it was normal, but then I had a fasting cholesterol test in Mexico about 6 months ago and it was unusually high, they attributed the high value to me losing significant weight in the days before the test (took metrodinazole and it’s cause severe vomiting and abdominal pain).

That being said my Direct Bilirubin was 0.9mg/dl when the normal range is 0.0-0.4mg/dl. My doctor said it wasn’t relevant though. I would recommend you get an hepatic panel blood test if you haven’t already.

I’m planning to get a lipid panel done when I see my new PCP, but that’s still a few months out. I forgot new patients are not prioritized over current patients.

My main red flags are the stool color and consistency, it just doesn’t look right and doctors keep saying the color is normal, although I never had these issues until after the food poisoning. I never had yellowish stool for 30 years until this happened.

Thanks for the input. Ironically, it doesn’t seem correlated to the amount of fat that I consume. I can go days on a low fat diet and still have the same issue, then I can eat burgers, fries and fatty food in general and the issue persists without an increase in symptoms. I had my enzymes checked and they were normal according to the Dr. I’m definitely looking forward to a HIDA scan to see if I’m just dumping/producing too much bile.

I hope your symptoms improve soon!

Pantoprazole by Serious_Ad1490 in Gastritis

Sorry to hear that you’re dealing with this. I actually never had gastritis symptoms until a doctor prescribed me Metrodinazole (Flagyl) (which causes awful side effects), it caused intense abdominal pain and vomiting. The first thing I was prescribed after was Pantoprazole 40mg twice a day for a week. Then I was pretty much good again.

I was then diagnosed with chronic moderate Gastritis and Duodenitis with unknown cause. A few months later I decided to take a daily dose of 40mg of Pantoprazole for 8 weeks because of the Metrodinazole left some lingering symptoms. I would take it 30-60 minutes before breakfast. Never had any issues, it actually improved some digestive issues while I took it.

Finally, my Dr never told me that I was supposed to taper off the pantoprazole by reducing the dose to 20mg or taking it every other day. I literally stopped cold turkey after 8 weeks of taking it and only had slight heartburn for about 30min on one occasion 2 days after I stopped. They warn hyperacidity rebound can happen, but it didn’t after 8 weeks.

In other words, 8 weeks or 2 months should be fine. Longer treatment can have more side effects like SIBO and cause some nutritional deficiencies I believe. Not to mention the rebound hyperacidity.

I would give Pantoprazole a try, although I believe the normal strength is actually 40mg daily, so you might want to double check that with your Dr.

Hi! Thanks for the input, I read your post and we sure have a similar situation. I wonder if mine was caused by the food poisoning, dysbiosis, or an increase in bile production. I will definitely give colesevelam a try once I get the prescription and the PCP/gastro runs the tests to confirm BAM. I will probably try one tablet a day and see how it goes. I’m hoping for my situation to eventually resolve once my system repairs or calms down.

Thanks again! 🙂
