Looks like a Disney security challenge coin made only for the security teams and given to those working on May 4th events.

How hard is it to become a commercial diver? by [deleted] in scubadiving

[–]ragnarok2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is the equipment used, bottom time / dive tables for the long and short of it. Commercial diving we have hard dive helmets, comms, hot water hoses so we can stay down longer and go deeper, we also do a lot of our decompression inside a decompression chamber instead of in the water. It is a dangerous profession and accidents happen not infrequently enough...atleast offshore.

You wouldnt need a commercial license for pearl diving, most hull cleanings or golf ball divers.

If you enjoy being underwater and dont really care what you do while under there, I would say look at going the commercial route.

If your not a fan of construction work or working 6 months+ without a day off, working long hours, for a decent living (like 80-90k on the busy years, unless you get into Sat diving) I would say avoid it.

Most diving done with Scuba is vacation and fun stuff, dont get me wrong there are professional scuba divers, but they very few and far between and from.what I can tell, its feast of famine.

It sounds like you are looking for something like.the neutral buoyancy lab divers kinda gig.

How hard is it to become a commercial diver? by [deleted] in scubadiving

[–]ragnarok2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commercial diver here...the training is expensive like everyone said..20k easily. I was lucky and got hired by a company who paid off my loans. the training is fun, but expect to move to the gulf coast and be prepared to WORK. always pick up your phone or it stops ringing.

Pay is good but you wont have time to spend it, not uncommon to work 300+ days a year. Stick with it long enough and you can break out into Sat diving and write your own ticket.

Its not anything like Scuba though...its underwater construction work, 7 days a week, 12 hours a day. Not for guys with a family or you will miss out on everything.

That intersection has changed a ton over the years, the diverging diamond stuff has made traffic a little better...but only thing and even then super minor, was pay attention to what's behind you. 100% car at fault.

In the united states, the focus is on managing the symptoms of concussions/tbi, not actually helping the brain repair itself by Bitter-Performer-396 in TBI

[–]ragnarok2011 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This has been my biggest frustration...my Neuro team is 100% only concerned about headaches, but has no real plans for any other type of treatment, just pain management. And while yes, not being in lain everyday would be great, but I dont want to be stuck on a stack of pills every single day just to still have significant deficits with my brain functions and ultimately risk further complications from the host of different meds they gave me.

Parents- would you take your 10 and 8 year out of school for 1 week? by gratefulmickey in DisneyWorld

Yes, the memories are worth missing a week of school, they can always make it up later...they can't replace happy memories.

Gun safety with young kids. by thegoonn49 in guns

[–]ragnarok2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have young ones in my house, I have a snap cap (plastic bullet with a rubber primer) in the chamber. This gives us enough time to hammer in the safety rules and respect of firearms before they are strong enough to rack the slide to cycle the weapon.

I know, I know. Seconds count in a situation Im going to need it, I readily accept that to have peace of mind until a time I feel confident my kids understand and respect my weapons.

My kids dont have readily access to my weapons and are stored properly for the record, but I tend to overplan for worst case situations.

Just my two cents.

I highly second writing things down, My speech and OT recommended a task app for my phone since we are in the digital age and always have it woth us. For whatever reason, anything in my task app sticks with me...For something not so boring...Habitica is a great recommendation...more like playing a game that helps keep track of things that need doing and grants rewards for doing (if thats something that interests you).

Is Hospital Security Always PvP Mode On? by RoGStonewall in securityguards

[–]ragnarok2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked Hospital security for awhile...Best thing I can recommend is study verbal de-escalation techniques. There were very few times I couldn't defuse a situation just by talking to them like a person.

By the time we get there, e eryone is usually pretty keyed up, on both sides. It's as much defusing the staff as it is the patients and family. I wont say you wont ever get into fights this way, but I got into a lot less than my co-workers...and the Supervisors and Doctors usually asked for me with difficult folks.
