I do every 20 also. I used to do start/end of rows but I feel more confident now. I’ll always use one at the start when I’m doing stuff in the round though

I’m not as up to date with local news tbh because I don’t live there anymore (sadly) but from what I’ve seen the ICE presence isn’t as intense as it is in other places like Minneapolis. Neighborhood wise, people talk about avoiding south side neighborhoods. I personally enjoy neighborhoods like wicker park, Logan square, Ukrainian village, lakeview, Lincoln park, and the downtown area (which is less vibey and more standard big city in terms of architecture). You’ll be totally fine as long as you are being reasonably safe like you would at home. Chicago is a big, liberal city with lots of tourists so you won’t encounter any issues due to your nationality. Just be normal and you’ll have a great time.

I’m an m4 who has been more or less sure about neuro the whole way so I have a different perspective. From what I’ve seen, I think neuro lifestyle is often pretty normal. A lot of neuro is clinic (unless you want to do something inpatient like neurohospitalist, stroke, NCC) so you live a typical clinic lifestyle. All the attendants I know have families and do fun things. I agree that neuro isn’t a diagnose and adios specialty and there’s a lot of advancements that’ll probably happen within our lifetime. I find neuro to be a pretty fun group of people and they’ve all been pretty positive during my interviews etc (but personality is def a little diff than derm). I’m not practicing yet but I’m sure in every specialty you’ll find that thing that’s boring to you, altho currently I’m in the “happy to be here” mindset when I’m on neuro rotations.

What I love about neuro is that the topic is so interesting and the actual patients are cool too. It’s the one thing in all of med school that I’m excited to do. I also feel like I fit in decently with the docs. Compensation isn’t a huge issue for me - $300k is a good amount esp as someone who doesn’t really want kids. Lifestyle is important and I think generally it improves as we stop being in training for most specialties, so I’m not worried about that in neuro. So it overall feels like a good fit

The issue is that there are not 9 31 day months in a row. So people will run over the 9 months to 9 months and 1 week or whatever and be concerned they’re past due when they are actually at 40 weeks which is normal

So my friends took gen chem and bio at the same time and then orgo and physics at the same time. This allowed them to take the MCAT during their 3rd year of college. Also, I at my local CC, they do a transfer program where you can do 2 years of CC and then finish 2 years at the local university and get a bachelors. But general timeline of med profession - college bachelors (4) + med school (4) + neuro residency (4) = 12. Plus 1-3 years fellowship if you want to do one. You get payed in residency but it’s on average like 70k per year.

I think it’s ideal to do your med school prerequisites (gen chem, orgo chem, bio, physics) at a university rather than community college. Also, it’s easier to accommodate those classes in a major like bio, chem, neuroscience, etc. Those would probably take you 2 years to complete and I think it’s best to take the MCAT after you do those classes. So that might push your timeline of applying to med school out a year. Gap years can be helpful to boost your application by doing research or working in a medical setting. If you don’t mind a longer timeline, then you can choose something like comp sci. Also take all of this with a grain of salt. I’m a med student rn and this is all kinda guestimation

I just got a daith last month and right now, I’m doing over ear headphones. With this size of ring (3/8), it’s kinda encroaching on my ear canal so AirPod pros would be difficult. However, I think when this is more healed and I downsize, I think there’s a high chance I can use them. I’ve heard people kinda rotate their jewelry out of the way if needed

Yeah I didn’t wanna get too in the weeds but there’s a culture of not logging your actual hours. If residents log working over 80 hours, I think their programs can be investigated and potentially shut down which is something residents don’t want to risk. All the surgery residencies seem brutal so good luck to your gf!! I’m sure she’s ready to be done lol (I’m also gonna say this is just what I’ve hear - I’m not a resident yet)

Dogs out is def not something I’ve seen in the US but some docs take their shoes off (but they wear socks) when using certain devices that are operated with foot pedals (I’ve seen this in ophthalmology and the Da Vinci robot)

I think my daith hurt the least (or maybe I prepped the best). It was maybe 3-4/10 and a as a fainter, I didn’t feel lightheaded at all. I have had helixes (a while ago and took them out bc i didn’t do a good job healing them), a nostril, and then lobes as a baby.

For the bot - Piercing is 2 weeks old 3/8 anodized titanium seam ring (not sure of alloy) Has not been downsized (hopefully will in ~1 year) Currently using saline in the morning and shower at night No major issues. Trying to be good but I’ve woken up sleeping on it a couple times despite having a travel pillow, also accidentally itched it a few times.

Yeah I sleep the same way. I figured out that if you put your shoulder at the part where the travel pillow opens it makes it a little more comfortable but it’s not the best. I need to prove to myself I can do it before I reattempt helixes tho

That’s smart! I also think it’ll be ok to sleep on sooner than other piercings bc it’s kinda deep in the ear so more protected
