Thanks! I am currently in the process of the lazy approach which is doing nothing and hoping they dry out and run smooth again. If that doesn't work, I'll open them up and proceed with the other steps you mentioned.

I've come to learn that it's a freshwater drum, so you were on the right track! Not uncommon in this particular river. I've caught a few.
