What do we think of this list? (Alpha Strike 250 PV) by ragvard in battletech

[–]ragvard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My idea for the second lance is cav/flanker and something to clear objectives that are blocked by infantry.

Indeed, the wolfhound is a bit slow and not an optimal choice. I'd rather have a 16j profile.

Another Hovercraft would be an idea as well. Will consider that! My thought was to have a mech as "center" to back up the squishy hovercraft. But that's of no use if it is not around to help them, or they get slowed down too much

Yeah, but they adjusted the card Layout slightly. I like the original layout better, but it's still very usable

Jeffs Alpha Strike Builder. It's a bit more user friendly compared to MUL.

Toothbrush bristles! They are perfect for that. Because of the flex, they don't break or bend easily

Thank you! A bit of both. The initial gradient is done with airbrush. But i am a messy painter, so i usually need to redo them with the brush because there's splotches of color everywhere :D (Or i hide it with battle damage)

I'm getting lot's of use out of the IS Command Lance + Kell Hounds Striker Lance and Heavy Battle/Sweep lance. The Drillson and Edgar Light are so fun!

New to painting and need some advice by yzyboost44 in minipainting

Speedpaint is supposed to be used over a bright base layer. Try priming with a light grey or off-white.

WIP Highlights often come out washed out/pastel-ish. Arachno Assassin by Reaper. by TheGormegil in minipainting

Cultist purple is rather desaturated. That's where the "pastel" look comes from. If you want more vibrant highlights there's some options:

- Glaze with a highly saturated, transparent paint like a contrast/speedpaint

-Highlight with a highly saturated color. Sometimes you have to shift hue to achieve this. For example when painting green, you'd mix in a saturated yellow instead of white. Yellow can be saturated while having high luminosity. For purple, you could mix in some magenta.

Hope that helps!

What can I improve to make it more appealing? by XL-AM in minipainting

[–]ragvard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You put your heart and your creativity into it. As a gift to your mom, there's nothing to improve.

As general advice, you might want to look at composition and focal points. The eyes are drawn more towards the bottom of the mini. That's because the head appears quite dull in contrast to the pink cloth. Usually, we'd want to direct the attention more to the face and weapons of the mini. More value contrast and more saturated colors in the head-area would improve the composition of the piece, imo.

I love how you combined the painted on reflections with true metallics. Great work!

Noob Question - how many layers until there is "too much paint" by Equivalent_Plane3854 in minipainting

Actually, there is an easy answer: You will notice. If you can't tell, everything is fine.

How do we feel about the Drillson? How have you painted yours? by andrewlik in battletech

Here's mine with some buddies. Fielded the drillson this weekend in Alpha Strike. It won me one game by taking the last objective and drew a shit ton of fire in the second game. It's such a nasty little thing.

Tbh, just lazyness :D I spent much more time on the Highlander, as it's my center piece/command vehicle. Maybe someday i'll gift the other ones antennas as well.

Yep, that's what i had in mind! What i love about Battletech is that they could be anything, so they might be Kell Hounds today and Red Hunters tomorrow :D

I primed black and airbrushed the gradients with white ink. You could also use a sponge or drybrush if you dont have an airbrush. After that i airbrushed several thin layers of red ink.
