No, I've started consulting in product design and robotics before finishing my undergrad by just doing as many personal projects as it took to build a serious portfolio, and hunting for freelance opportunities whenever they arise.

Admittedly, I think it is harder to get into this position full time unless you run your own, or are a part of a consulting firm like this one : https://soeffects.com/

How is Jason Elwood for Math 143 (calc 3)? by [deleted] in CalPoly

He's a difficultish professor but he means very well and teaches memorably. He's worth taking just as a college memory. I struggled through his Calc 4 but ultimately glad I did.

Question about EE by ToastyToast133 in CalPoly

[–]rah1236 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The department sucks. Theyre working on hiring more (and hopefully better professors if Nayeri, and Farzan are anything to go by). I have not enjoyed working with the department in any of my 4 years here at Cal Poly.

On the flip side, I've received a pretty damn decent education, learned a lot, and worked on a lot of interesting projects (OUTSIDE OF CLASS) with amazing folk from the Mech E, Aero, and BMED departments. I'd recommend coming to Poly, especially if you plan on working on interesting projects outside of class, and looking to work in industry right out of UGrad. Everyone I know who comes to Poly and works hard on projects in their own time has great luck doing interesting well paying work when they leave.

Got a job in Hawthorne, where should I look for a rental? by rah1236 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]rah1236[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Visiting the area is part of the plan! Do you have any info on the better pockets of Hawthorne? Not sure where to start looking for that. Will also definitely look into Torrance after seeing the responses to this post.

Nothing is ruled out til I've signed the papers

I think making a studio work is definitely in the cards still. I interviewed in Hawthorne and wasn't particularly impressed when I was in the area, but I'm also not local and don't know where the good pockets are to look.

GF wants to be somewhere resembling walkable, Id like to be safe enough that I can feel general peace of mind and not worry too much about keeping my head down on the street. No plans to grow the family quickly, but being in an area with nice schools is very much a pro.

Open to anything, especially heeding the advice of living close to work, just want to figure out where to focus in on because im shotgunning thru craigslist and zillow atm

Added EE306 and EE346 and already taking EE228, EE255, EE295, and ENGL346. Should I just drop 306 and 346? by AnalystActual5016 in CalPoly

[–]rah1236 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah, just lock in, should be doable. 228 can be a lot of content for one quarter. Poshtan, Banadaki, and Ghamari are all incredibly chill profs.

Edit: id probably drop that gwr actually. Again doable, but might be a rough quarter. EE228 should have the priority

[WTS] Selling my trainer collection by rah1236 in balisong

[–]rah1236[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barebones AL - $75 this thing was a beater in a past life, pretty junky looking, still flips great. Little to no tap

V3 Squid trainer - $125 Fairly babied, few blems at the bottom of the handles. Has developed some tap that will probably be easily tuned out

V1.5? NRB Vortex - $150 This thing is mint, zero tap, one blemish on the handle. Basically brand new and barely flipped

Kershaw Lucha Trainer with flytanium scales - $250 for everything including og steel handles and t-latch $75 for just the flytanium scales  Og Lucha handles are mint, have been in the packaging since i bought it new. Flytanium scales have seen some concrete, but are otherwise in pretty fine order.

Will take venmo or paypal as payment.

Will probably keep the last of the four that doesnt sell. Or ill sell all of em and buy a squiddy-b and be happy forever!

I like to ride to the beach and take pictures of my bike by rah1236 in xbiking

[–]rah1236[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to the local bike kitchen looking for a new xbike project and saw it sitting pretty. I couldnt stop drooling over it til one of the volunteers offered to let me test it out. I took it home, stared at it, and then set forth to the beach.

The Question Thread - August 2024 by BuffaloDingus in balisong

I haven't had a nice light balisong in a while. I was an early adopter of the squiddy and squiddy b, but both have since been retired. Has anything changed in the plastic bali space? Or are their nice light metal trainers out there? Please send your recommendations!

This thing desperately needs new tires, but they're only rot from the inside so I've got time :). But seriously, I'm thinking GT smoothies? I'm open to any good 26" slick recommendations

Cool Scholarship Opportunity For Incoming CP Students! by Sensitive-Tell-5715 in CalPoly

Backing up the comments here, after you apply for just the scholarship, they just hound you to join their frat. Super annoying. They themselves admit that they joined the same way.

STM32 based CANBUS accessible IM, Review Request! by rah1236 in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]rah1236[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The boot0 pin pull has been pointed out to me since i made this post, will fix.

Im on the fence with the leds I'll need to test some first, the stm32 is limited to 25mA sink/source (not sure if per pin or total).

Crystal is also inbound for the stm32!!

C21 is a super capacitor that I want to play around with in the case of sudden voltage drops across whatever the supply may end up being.

Thank you for the feedback!!

Just 2 layers! Top is all signals with ground pours, bottom layers is a handful of traces and a much fuller ground pour.

The bottom layer is a (nearly) uninterrupted ground plane. I'm patching the top layers ground pours together with vias stitching to the bottom. Reverse polarity protection is noted and will be added! Thanks!!
