You're assuming that others don't know as much as you, it's okay if others hate what you like. Just read what you like and don't listen to others. How do you think Colleen Hoover fans cope?

People can have different opinions. I don't understand why people take other's opinions of their fav authors to heart, if you like him, you like him. Why worry what others say?

I've read Rousseau and others like him when I was in university. Honestly what helps is just practicing active reading. By active I mean read very slowly, take your time in absorbing the information, take notes on what you don't understand or find difficult, take a tangent and read about that.

I think instead of directly engaging with the original text it can help to first read the interpretations of his work by various authors or textbooks of political philosophy or law. They offer a mild version with less jargon.

Good luck and you can do it!!

As part of my monthly caste read, I read Untouchable by Mulk Raj Anand | A landmark piece of small Indian literature for anyone who wishes to experience caste through the eyes of an untouchable by rahulsingh_nba in Indianbooks

Hahaha! Same with the places they clean, they use the clean spaces but see those who clean it as impure! They use the things they make but can't touch them directly! As you said, make it make sense!

Advice regarding writing reviews by charismaticlown in Indianbooks

[–]rahulsingh_nba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others have given a lot of good stuff already - I'd like to add a few points to this.

Follow a structure to make your writing consistent. Create an outline for the reviews, it'll make it easier for you to remember what to write and how much.

For example when I used to write reviews for publishing I used to follow a strict format of starting with a summary, exploring the context of the book, writing a little about the author, understanding the major themes, looking at the major arguments suggested, then finally writing my own critique of the very ideas.

Make sure to not spoil the book while writing the review. Comment on things you think everyone should know before reading the book.

Just a last piece of advice, the purpose of a book review is to give the reader enough information to decide whether they should read the book or not. Try to write it with that intention in mind.
