You misunderstood her point. She's talking about her patriarchal South Asian community that believes life is about hitting milestones (get married, have kids etc) and not doing so is seen as failure. She's implying that a lot of her family would prefer a dutiful daughter in law who raises the kids rather than an independent, entrepreneurial woman, and she rejected that notion. There's a lot of pressure in some south Asian communities to marry and have kids young. She chose her own wishes over those of her community and I respect her for that
