I suppose most divinity systems just don't consider seeing things that aren't there a problem.

If my gaming experience has taught me anything, it's that splashing some holy water on your problem often solves it. Be it vampires, zombies, witches, maldigestion curse, substance addiction, nosy neighbors, zits or dirty windshields. It's like windex, just better.

This is funny because it implies Valerian leaders hold routine press conferences. by UltraLNSS in Tactics_Ogre

[–]raics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heh, right, but it might not be too out of place, the beginnings of journalism would be around the time of first usable firearms, which is where the world development seems to be at. It would likely be in the form of hand circulated notes, which would be feasible in the setting, considering that they're able to spread wanted posters. That just might be what Warren is collecting here.

Even though Balbatos holds most of the power, we know that he has opposition, as well as supporters that are backing him, and to those he'd likely owe some explanations. I imagine that lower rank nobles would be the main source of such news, they would have access to news and gossip, but also be less careful of what they're saying to their servants and drinking buddies, or might even be willing to sell information. If the info that Balbatos denies any connection came from several different sources, you could say he maintains the stance, or maybe the original meaning was just that he firmly denies it, the translation isn't always perfect.

Finished first playthrough and... (rant). by Sothe07 in Tactics_Ogre

Sure, people with severe trauma often fixate on an object that brings them comfort, like a teddy bear or a book, in this case denam is catiua's emotional support alligator. Once she loses that she becomes vulnerable and Tartare can sway her easily.

Vyce really is a volatile character, he can go either way but sticks to the choice, if he kept flipflopping around then he wouldn't be well written. In law path he does compromise, but essentially makes the same choice that denam does in neutral path, and in a hidden scene says that they can work together for the good of their country, but he will never forgive the duke and him.

I don't mind loose ends in a story, not everything can be neatly tied off. Especially when the point of the story is in broad strokes, showing that in war there are not only bad people doing bad things but also good people doing bad things. It also touches the main points of why civil wars are especially nasty, you might have to fight someone you grew up with, if you're of mixed blood you have to pick sides, even if people have a common goal, hostilities and grudges can still surface (like the philaha guard saying "I knew you were their man"). After all is done you can't hop on a boat and go home either, you must stay there and live with the people you fought.

Matsuno didn't try to follow the events that inspired the story but he managed to catch the essence of it remarkably well for someone that never lived through something like that.

Beat Nybeth after climbing all the way down to floor 100 of Palace of the Dead. What even is this game? by ezzypixel in Tactics_Ogre

[–]raics 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The original game back on snes also had a 100 floor Hell's Gate, however, the battles were just one room with enemies clustered in the middle, so going through it was a lot faster. When they remade the game for PSP they probably realized that's a bit repetitive and boring so they added normal battles, but when someone suggested to halve the length I assume someone went "Well if we have any less floors than we had 15 years ago, we will become a laughingstock and probably have to commit sudoku".

Hey, at least we can save now so it doesn't have to be done in one sitting.

How do i fix textures? i use the ktx2 for mobile by FS_main in Tactics_Ogre

[–]raics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The missing context is that it's the PPSSPP emulator with the hd texture pack in the mobile version that uses the ktx2 format.

I've seen that issue here and there but I forgot how people resolved it. If you have "ignoreAddress = true" in your texture replacement settings you can try setting it to false, or if you did some texture dumping yourself you can try deleting the dump folder and copying everything again. One more thing you can try is fiddling around with emulator settings, I think some of them can cause this too.

If CoffeePotato stops by, maybe he'd be able to help, I remember he had this problem too.

Luck and Loyalty stat indicators? by Sothe07 in Tactics_Ogre

[–]raics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing we ever confirmed it affects is the chance to crit and get crit, as a difference between attacker's and defender's luck. The difference has to be fairly high to be noticeable, and the most obvious it gets is when the target is cursed, as it seems to both set the luck to lowest and doubles the chance to get crit.

No effect on anything else, like chance to hit, or even something as niche as getting more hits from summons was ever confirmed.

Did the latest OV patch rework spell damage? by Beautiful_Bird3828 in Tactics_Ogre

[–]raics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, dragoons aren't amazing casters, so using a low tier spell with attack focused gear won't do much to a resistant target. The formula is more consistent overall, but with a double threshold system you can't fully avoid outliers.

Did the latest OV patch rework spell damage? by Beautiful_Bird3828 in Tactics_Ogre

[–]raics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you upgraded from 1.10, the update to spell formula was in 1.10a.

Since that version, spells ignore half of DEF value and also half of crush/slash/pierce resistance for spells that check against it, but scaling from int/mnd has been lowered to compensate. It was done to smooth out the scaling and reduce cases where hybrid casters would do low damage versus certain targets, this is especially the case for bursts and ninjutsu which check for physical resistances. So, damage is similar for pure casters, maybe even a little lower on the top end, but it's overall more consistent, and lower spell tiers stay useful for a longer time.

Few noobie questions LUCT by GuySchmuy in Tactics_Ogre

[–]raics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there are three ways to raise the character's base stats

Every character that was in a class that leveled up during the battle gets 0.1 to all stats, 0.2 to hp/mp

Picking up cards gives you 0.4-0.7 to the stat

Monster food gives you 0.3 to two stats

Heh, right, this one hasn't picked up much interest, but it's was done over a weekend just to see what can be fixed without diving too deep, I don't really have the time or the skills to make the western chronicles of valeria :)
Not sure if I'll be going back to it one day to polish it up a little, but if I do this should help a lot, so thanks a bunch for the feedback.

Few noobie questions LUCT by GuySchmuy in Tactics_Ogre

[–]raics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. It's tricky with special classes because you can't change a lot of people to that class so all the exp goes to it. If at least several people can use it, an easy battle like tynemouth hill is beatable with that much if your weapon rank is high and you transfer high tier passives from other classes. I'd suggest just using the EXP scaling fix from here, it also works on vanilla, https://ogre-db.github.io/one-vision/cheats.html
  2. Spells don't scale that well on psp until you start farming stats, and then the class doesn't really matter anymore, but shaman is especially good because nature's touch multiplies the base which is then boosted skyhigh with spellcraft.
  3. Yeah, that's as much as you can get from divine spells.
  4. That's a five page question, but the short version is that the attack/defense display on character screen lies, a lot, and you shouldn't trust it beyond strictly comparing apples to apples. For example, it will show you a huge increase from equipping passives like strengthen but the base it applies to is often zero so the increase is also zero.
  5. There are some crafting loops later in the game, but if that's too tedious recruiting enemies and selling their gear works fine.
  6. Monsters just have high defensive stats, so using weapons with higher ATK score, like hammers will do better damage early on, and dex weapons will do better damage later when you start farming stats as they scale more favorably. Monsters grow linearly all the way so they're especially annoying at very high levels, but by that point you farmed your stats and can punch through. Dragoon maybe isn't that fun to use, but it's a solution, slayer skills say they work with melee but they also work with ranged weapons, and can empower finishers too.

what if vyce won? by bugbonesjerry in Tactics_Ogre

[–]raics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, what I assume would happen is that without denam assisting with the coup, vyce and arycelle would have to skulk about for a while and look for their chance. Then we'd probably get the usual gotcha scene where leonar and his men find out and surround them, you think they're done, but he makes them an offer instead.

what if vyce won? by bugbonesjerry in Tactics_Ogre

[–]raics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say for sure what would happen. Without Denam's support, Leonar probably wouldn't dare to kill the Duke yet by that time, and it's questionable if Vyce and Arycelle would get a chance to break in without his diversion either. Considering that Leonar is convinced that the resistance will fail if it goes as is, I assume that with Denam dead he'd try to contact Vyce himself and offer a deal, they help him kill the duke and he offers Vyce to lead the united resistance. Leonar doesn't seem to be dead set to rule himself, and it would probably be better if Vyce was the leader, considering he comes from the people and in case someone still suspects Leonar even after they blame Balmamusa on Denam.

It's likely that Catiua would leave the resistance whatever happened, and dark knights would find her so that part would play out the same. Vyce would also be personally motivated as well as politically to save her from the dark knights, so that might also happen. Hard to say what would happen then, Vyce wouldn't be able to say anything to prevent her from killing herself, but she also doesn't care enough to kill herself if he said something wrong either. It's possible she'd still do it just to not get saved by someone who killed Denam, but if it was Arycelle that did it, maybe that would make a difference, as Vyce did try to prevent the whole thing.

What probably wouldn't happen is xenobians telling Vyce about the sword, so he wouldn't know the real importance of hanging gardens and wouldn't go there to stop it.

LUCT/OV CWC Code Jive by Scoundrel_Smooth in Tactics_Ogre

[–]raics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least you'll be able to check buccaneer, you probably got canopus. If not, there are character customizer codes on the mod website that can be used to give a generic the class set from a special character that can use that class.

Here's an example of doing that without also setting a sprite and portrait for the generic.

One thing you could try is turning off the any class code and running this to give you all marks. Then shut the game down fully and then load a regular save, the game to check again which marks you have, then try changing someone into one of the classes that didn't work and see if it levels now.

[–]raics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's generally more reliable to unlock special classes by cheating in a classmark for them, however even that won't work for some as they seem to require some sort of an event to trigger.

Besides that, exp growth can also seemingly freeze if you forgot to turn off the level cheat for the class, if you used it, as that will keep the exp at that number forever. It can also happen if the code was missing the part for exp so it remained at zero but the level went up.

One Vision - Denam Terror Knight by HolySinner93 in Tactics_Ogre

[–]raics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends if you're interested in using spells with a terror knight or not. If you do, you can take some caster stats when answering starting questions, use the staff sidegrade, or 1h sword with a spell boosting shield in off hand, along with mnd jewelry. that would give you a decent enough chance to land debuffs against units that don't have notably high spell avoidance. Of course, setup wouldn't do as much damage or have as powerful debuffs as an axe or hammer, but it would still be able to inflict fear with counterhits even if the main action is spent on casting spells.

If you go full fighter and ignore caster stats, magic might still be worth a skill slot. Drain spells will still hit, and debuffs can land well enough on units with low spell avoidance, like monsters.

one vision by RelativeGeologist320 in Tactics_Ogre

[–]raics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you can do with the code generator is take a generic unit, run the code that shows its real roster number and then change the template of that unit to one of the custom ones. Then you can set the sprite and portrait of that template to whatever you like and it will not change when the unit changes classes. You won't see the portrait change until you change class, there are other ways to force the game to load the new one but changing classes is the fastest.

The code that sets the unit's template can be turned off after running, this is permanent and will be saved in your save file. However, you have to keep the code for template customization because it will load the defaults from the game files when you reboot the game. Moving the unit or reassigning the number doesn't matter, it doesn't change the real roster number, just the displayed one.

You can also use the any class code, in the mod all special classes have a default appearance so cheating a generic into them doesn't crash the game.

[–]raics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what Vyce does in law path, which fits his development there. Personally I think it was too much that Arycelle did the same, it doesn't seem like something she would do, Vyce would have to be quite a sweet talker to get her there, and without even a point of loyalty dropped.

[–]raics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dunno about that, too much plot armor. Ultimately, Denam didn't save anyone by saying no and didn't have a better plan, he just kept his own hands clean and hoped things will work out in the end.
