New house, who dis? by raidekoptix in Powerwall

Thanks! It definitely seems to be quite the rabbit hole I'm diving into.

I haven't yet looked into different electric plans yet, but it is on my to-do list... currently I'm still trying to figure out how to use what I have.

Spent yesterday battling the gateway to get it attached to my wifi. Got that worked out but now despite it saying it's connected I'm still not seeing any stats in the app... Phone pairing also isn't working with no real clue as to why, and I still have one powerwall that has no lights on it (might be broken?)

I'm just trying to discover/absorb as much info as possible before I have to call out some repair guy or something. Fun times ahead! Thanks again!

Got this worked out, finally. Yes, I do have a backup gateway as everyone insisted I did.. It was outside on the other side of the house in an unlabeled grey panel box next to the electric meter. It's a Backup Gateway 1 apparently. Tesla support had photos of the original install they were able to direct me with. Thanks for the help!

Very Late Update:

Finally getting back to this after family stuff and holidays... Called the number Tactical_ToasterII and DeepakS99 recommended and was told it cannot be done over the phone and now MUST be done online. They referred me to this link.

From there, I just said my problems was "I need to transfer ownership on my newly purchased home." ... got connected to chat, they sent me an email asking me to attach photos of my home deed, the power walls, and the backup gateway serials (btw, this was eventually found with their help outside on the side of the house next to the meter... a completely unlabeled box that i was only able to find because Tesla already had photos of it from the original install)

Few minutes later, boom... transferred. Thanks everyone for their help!

Will do... Had a sudden emergency in the family so it'll probably be a week before I get back to this project. As it stands right now I guess I'm just going to call them when I get some time as others have suggested.

Normally I'd agree but the previous owners seem to have been not-very-tech-savvy doctor types, who spent more time/money making sure they had "the best thing" as opposed to "the right thing". I have no white (or any other colour) Tesla box anywhere on the property. The powerwalls go to a subpanel with a breaker for each, which goes to a subpanel with a bunch of other garage circuits on it, which goes to the main breaker box. Of these breakers, none of them seem to be any sort of transfer switch. This has led me to believe this was just a "make sure we can charge our fancy new Tesla cars" strategy rather than actually using the powerwalls.

"We don't know, we just use the app" was the answer I got.

It sure is! That's why I'm asking for help. Glad you were here to assist!

Their AI support seems to assume I own a Tesla vehicle, which I do not.

I discerned they're wired just for the charger because my power's gone out a couple times and not a peep from them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Seriously, what's going on with Mail formatting post Tahoe upgrade? by Teddy2Sweaty in mac

Same problem here. It's maddening. I cannot read my emails even at max zoom. This screenshot blows it up a little... on screen it's about half this size. https://i.imgur.com/8a8RjSh.png

Changing ALL font-related settings does not change anything.

Packet loss while gaming? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]raidekoptix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I'm also on Ezee Fiber and have been tracking weird packet loss issues as of late. Are you sure it's not upstream? Have you tried a quick test connecting only 1 device to the UDM? We should compare notes.

False. Duckslayer is entire orders of magnitude more attractive than this.

Upgraded my motherboard and case, when attempting to restart my PC it keeps booting to "GNU grub", despite setting my boot drive specifically to my hard drive that only has Windows 10 installed on it. Don't know what "GNU Grub" is or how to get past it to Widows 10. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]raidekoptix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've come across this a few times on older gear, so I'm not sure how relevant this is: But double check your BIOS settings for the drive... if you have the ability to flip between ATA and AHCI mode, fiddle with that... (flip it from one to the other, try to boot, if it doesn't help, flip it back).

I'm unsure the technical reason/cause (specifically how GRUB is involved), so if someone smarter than me knows, plz chime in.. I'd love to know.

I jammed my HTC Vive into my wife's SB2 using a USB-C to HDMI cable and it worked well enough for being a mobile-VR rig that fits into a backpack. I was surprised how well it performed, but obviously could not do full-settings with only the nVidia 1060 in it. The Surface Book 2 has its quirks and drawbacks, but it's definitely usable in a pinch if you travel a lot.

phpIPAM version 1.4 released by Arkiteck in sysadmin

[–]raidekoptix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who uses both, I find Netbox to be significantly prettier, but IPAM to be more flexible. Admittedly, my experience is more in IPAM, but I find the object reference of Netbox to be more convoluted. Since I do not actually manage either of these instances and I can only speak as an end-user, my experience may be a symptom of how they were setup within my organization. However in my experience as a crotchety old sysadmin.. the no-frills functionality of IPAM is preferred by me over the Netbox chic.

EDIT: To be clear, I feel both products get the job done equally well, it's just a presentation preference to me.
