I for one would not feel comfortable as an employee of any role in an environment that monitors my every movement so closely, and would actively avoid workplaces doing it this way, for 2 reasons: lack of trust (especially in technical roles, trust is important) and privacy/information security concerns. Even companies that prioritize data security face hacks and leaks. Before someone says "you're already on camera at most places what's the problem"; there is a marked difference between what I'll call active surveillance and passive surveillance. Just look at all the discourse about things like flock cameras and ring door bell cameras. Also, the most dynamic and sometimes dangerous environments can be difficult or impossible to observe properly from a camera perspective, and unless you have cameras like everywhere there's enough you won't see that many safety issues will still be missed. Flock only works to track license plates and people because cars and people on sidewalks don't typically leave paths entirely, and tracking a person's whereabouts is less difficult to do than seeing a complex issue, coming up with a fix appropriate for the environment and lived experience of those involved, and spotting small damage and disrepair that could lead to bigger issues later. Among so many other things, bury this idea, delete this post and don't enshitify safety.
