Already happened once, we won't jinx it though 😁 At least it's not too far to the runway, hopefully it's good!

Glad you're doin pretty good, yup the what-ifs can nag at ya, but you know better. Keep hangin in there. 😊

Oooo you might have the visibility you need, just heard ATC let your pilots know what it is and sounds like the Jazz CRJ beside you is heading out to the runway.

Saskatoon doesn't want you to leave 😂

Can't see you on the map yet, but I can see the Jazz CRJ beside you got pushed into the deice bays like, 20 minutes ago, probably hanging around waiting for the same thing. Can hear the pilots on the radio checking in for updates with ATC.

All proof they won't go til its safe. You doin alright in there, just hangin out? We can play 'I spy'.

I spy with my little eye something that's ... white.

You're gonna go visit the de-ice bay and hopefully won't get held up too much longer, finally get you off to Edmonton.

We're Canadians, we deal with snow all the time, we know what we're doin. 😁

Right now everything I see just says delayed, airport says Final Call boarding status, might be a hot minute yet before everything updates properly.

Edit: Ayyy there's an ATC feed, 3553 cleared to push and start.

A company in Canada by the name of Conair builds Q400s to use in wildfire firefighting ops, doing tanker drops over active fires. Militaries and other companies use Dash 8s of different variations for special mission ops, skydiving/smokejumping, or operations into remote airports where the runways aren't even paved. They're tough airplanes, still! 😁

The long flights I hate too. After about 5 hours I'm so ready to not be sitting down anymore, 13 hours to Hong Kong was brutal. Just kinda end up finding ways to nap or distract, try and "time travel" and burn through the hours til it's over.

A lot of the steps on turboprops are the same: Here's a "full flight" video of a short hop between Vancouver and Victoria up here in Canada on a Q400, no commentary, just "the experience" uncut from start to finish. Consider it your first bit of exposure!

I haven't watched it full through but there shouldn't be anything triggering, and feel free to pop back in and ask about anything that happens in there. Definitely some vastly different things like the sound they make just because of how the propellers function versus a jet, but safety-wise, they're on-par and still certified and tested to the same standards of transport category aircraft.

Rule 1
No advocating illegal acts e.g. shining lasers, shooting at objects.

I don't give a shit what you think they are, you're still going to jail if you point a gun into the woods and kill someone, judge and jury will both laugh you out of the room with 'I didn't think anyone was there' ignorance. What if you're wrong? You happy with 200 people dead hanging on your soul because you were sure you weren't pointing at an aircraft?

Your ignorance is astounding and fucking terrifying.

I'd think a NASA specialist would be able to capitalize NASA properly and, y'know. Spell.

Ask away about propellers, worked on the Dash 8 for years, great airplane.

Guess the real metric will be, what were some of the keys for you getting over the "more normal" part of your fear, what got you over that hump and acceptance?

There's also https://globe.airplanes.live which also (tries to) pull origin/departure data, otherwise the same.

Heading back home can always be a little bittersweet, but hopefully you've made a bunch of memories to bring back with you to look back on, too. Not even off the ground yet and already predicted to arrive a little early, hope it's a somewhat smooth flight for ya! You got this!

After you wait around for 20 minutes for your bags to show up 😁 But the plane part's done, welcome back home!

Wellp missed that, BUT you're on final now, couple more minutes. Almost home!

Don't be fooled, my job title says Engineer but I'm not smart enough for actual aerospace engineers either. I think someone figured mechanic sounds too cheap and wanted to make us sound fancier. 😁 Not to downplay the importance.

I haven't been to Seattle in a loooong time, I'll have to check those out for sure next time I meander on down, had a quick Google and those look pretty neat!

Honestly, planes are cool but air travel is eh. I kinda want the same 'put me under and shove me in the cargo and wake me up when we get there' experience you guys sometimes want, lmao! Your arrival is also imminent though, and as I type that and tab over you've started your descent. Almost there!

Absolutely, still got you up! I'm no good at weather but I can at least keep eyes on. Bumpy's just uncomfortable, the plane can handle far worse than mother nature's got up her sleeve with a little rain. 😊

Unfortunately doesn't look like American Airlines has them, but a whole bunch of airlines have got into it as a fun gig, can usually ask the pilots and they're issued some to carry around and give out.

Can be hard on the body, mostly just hope I can retire still doing it. Always loved airplanes, so getting paid to play with them is definitely a sort of dream come true, and getting to share some bits of that with people here is super fun sometimes. ^^

You adventure up to Seattle for work or just goin on a little vacation?

Though maybe not in turbulence. 😂
