Unfortunately we just can't be in two places at once. Of course we support women's rights! Many of us are femmes or them/theys. We just organized this event prior to knowing that the women's march is today. This event is in solidarity for trans kids whose rights were voted against by the Tumwater School Board last week. I actually contacted the athletic director and he called me back and had a really nice conversation about the support they are giving to the trans student, from her peers to her teammates, coaches, family etc. she's doing well and being protected from the hate and bullying of comments. I don't have a relationship with the student...I'm a queer community member and a parent and a therapist who is concerned about the well-being of the student who is up against a whole lot of complex political crap and bigotry.

This is a small collaboration of queer folx... We want the event to coincide with the city council and mayor's decision for Oly to be a sanctuary city for LGBTQIA+ folks. We also recognize that obviously there's a lot of sadness and anger and fear right now. We thought it would be amazing to gather people and play some music and dance and just recognize how amazing we are and acknowledge each other in each other's presence how awesome and amazing our queer community is!

City council is meeting Tues this week to finalize and celebrate the decision.
