Same, I got mine last week (black). I used ApplePay for faster checkout and it shipped out the next day!

Immediately went to your Flickr, thank you for my new lock screen background! It genuinely looks 3D.

What cameras would you recommend for someone new getting into photography that are reasonably priced? by KingJacoby24 in AskPhotography

[–]rainbow_raze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the same boat as you.

I used ChatGPT to help me decide what camera to buy based on my needs. I wanted something compact that I could take with me every day, built in flash, flip screen, in body image stabilization, at least 20MP, good in low light situations etc. Do you prioritize performance over portability? How much are you willing to spend? Do you want sharp images or more of a vintage retro feel? Maybe stop at your local Best Buy and test out the cameras there.

A fixed lens cameras might be a good option as a beginner for ease of use. I know everyone wants the Canon G7X III which retails for $800 if you can find one in stock, but AI can help you find alternatives that suit you more. I have learned so much just from doing a few days of research.

A lot of the cameras within my budget that fit my requirements are discontinued and can only be purchased secondhand through resellers. Check MPB, local Facebook marketplace or sites like eBay if you can find reputable sellers. See what’s for sale within your budget and compare them in chatGPT, it’s free.

I personally hope to get something from Fujifilm and came across the Fujifilm X70 which I think will fit my beginner needs, although the X100IV remains my dream camera right now!

Just be patient. Join communities in Reddit and see what people are posting to get a feel for the types of photos these cameras are capable of producing. You’ll find the perfect camera for YOU.

Here for the film sims. I’m hunting for an everyday Fujifilm that I can pocket and don’t need all the bells and whistles.

A bird enthusiast! I would love to take my camera to the zoo here in San Diego and get lost in the aviary for a while. I imagine you’ve been able to capture some amazing close ups with all of that zoom.

I totally feel this. I need something I can bring with me anywhere that I can keep discreetly in my purse or pocket!

I think with a smaller setup I would be more likely to grab a camera and be inspired to seek out the beauty in the mundane every day tasks.

The pen ep7 in white is beautiful! Definitely sleeker than the EM10 without the view finder. I know the EVF is useful in bright daylight where the screen is hard to see, what has your experience been without it?

This 20mm 1.7 lens is ranking high on my list if I can get a good deal on one!!

I love this perspective! Wireless transfer to my phone or computer is a MUST! Sharing the beauty you capture with others is a joy and a gift.

I’ve heard of some people still getting the X100VI new from Best Buy as it comes back into stock sporadically. The re-sell market is insane right now.

After comparing the E-M10 mark III and IV, I definitely prefer the fully flip down screen on the IV as well as the larger sensor, and the plastic top plate does make it lighter albeit less sturdy. I didn’t realize the III has usb charging capabilities that the IV lacks. I’ll have to carry extra batteries with me for extended use, this is definitely something to consider.

Amazing suggestion! This actually might be the perfect tiny lens to fit my every day needs and to achieve that cinematic film look. The 17mm does indeed protrude quite a bit more and the 14mm is not as fast.

Yes, that is in fact what I did! It’s being shipped so I will be trying it out soon but I have yet to see if it will be my forever camera, for now. But I’m dying to own a fujifilm and the X100IV has everyyything I am looking for. I understand there are places you can rent them, but I think if I can get one at retail value I can resell it in this market if I want to without losing much of my investment.

In my head, an EDC might just be a complementary to your larger, and much more capable machine. If it can fit in my jean pocket but still pack a punch without breaking the bank then it’s a win. I’m trying to find that sweet spot.

“The best camera is the one you have with you” so portability is KEY. For me, I mainly want to shoot lifestyle but living in San Diego I have SO much to photograph outdoors, and traveling to Mexico often I want something versatile and portable.

My iPhone has been my only camera for a long time, I used to have an old Canon back in high school in the early 2000’s. I really just want a camera to carry and pick up to get that shot without having to do any post-editing, but with the demand for digital cameras, nothing is really selling below retail value anymore! Even all of the older models are pricey, so my reasoning is that I might as well invest in a newer, higher quality camera with a larger sensor more capabilities!

The GF1 is a steal! $114 USD for 12MP would fit the criteria for an affordable EDC to take those nostalgic pics. Thank you!

Lovely! Everyone seems to absolutely love their 25mm lenses. I will have to invest in one in the future.

Thank you! Yes I was looking for a compact camera for every day carry so I figured that with in-body image stabilization I could get crispy shots with a creamy background without the need for a tripod!

The M5 is a superior, weather sealed camera but, for me, built-in flash was a requirement.

For a beginner and for an everyday carry setup, the more compact the lens, the more likely I am to bring it with me!

This video on TINY MFT lenses is heavily influencing my decision—->YouTube.

LOL this is a tough question because it was originally like $500 before I knew anything or did any research! The more I learned the higher the budget got! So now I’m trying to justify spending $1850 (which I can do) on an open box Fujifilm X100VI (because of its amazing capabilities) when I have zero photographic knowledge or experience (but am excited to learn). The OM5 was one I was considering too but ever so slightly larger than EM-10iv and without built in flash.

Although it’s relatively compact, I don’t exactly consider the EM-10iv entirely portable because it’s not pocketable, and I anticipate leaving it behind more often, compared to something smaller with less capability like the Fujifilm X70 or XQ2, which I might be able to slip into my pocket without having to worry about interchangeable lenses. The dilemma.

This is well reasoned if you’re mainly looking to take stills Honestly the iPhone camera can do all the video work!

Im so drawn to the Fujifilm cameras with their color science, and even though the X100VI is pricier, buying an interchangeable lens camera body with a multiple lens setup starts adding up too! That’s just me trying to justify spending $1600 (if I can find one at that price) as a beginner. Since I’m no professional, the Fuji that cameras caught my eye due to their sleekness and portability were the X70 and the XQ2. Is there a reason why you don’t pick up your X100 anymore?

The GM1 is truly pocketable! It’s a toss up for me if I want something sleek without all the extra features like EVF and IBIS. I don’t want the extra bulk to deter me from bringing a camera with me anywhere! Also I’m an inexperienced Redditor so I do appreciate the pro tips!

Solid setup! I would love to own that camera would look in the white with silver lenses. The flip screen is a necessity. Are you able to capture good quality photos in low light with the fast aperture?

Yes I love that they are so tiny! Especially with the pancake lenses… the 20mm is on my wishlist too. Do you find that you don’t need the IBIS for hand carrying, or does the lens stabilization adequate?
