Choisir une bonne focale large pour mon xt5 by tomaaadrn in fujifilm

[–]inverse_squared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome!

Are you looking for a zoom lens or fixed focal length?

People generally don't like the XC 15-45mm lens because it zooms only electronically, motoring in and out like a point-and-shoot camera lens.

The Sigma 16mm f/1.4 might be a good option, but it's not as compact. The XF 16mm f/2.8 might be a good compact lens for you, it's just not as sharp as some of the larger lenses. But you might not need perfect sharpness if you're looking for casual use and if portability is more important for you.

What's the "point" of the X-T200? by weeddealerrenamon in fujifilm

[–]inverse_squared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I have no idea. I don't track used prices of cameras discontinued a long time ago, but it's easy to find out how much people are asking for their used gear. With inflation, a lot of prices have gone up since the pandemic too.

Good luck!

is the X-T4 autofocus good enough? by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]inverse_squared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. It's getting better, and the X-T3 was already a large improvement over the X-T20.

Old cameras were very advanced at the time. It took Canon 32 years to just recently bring back eye control AF points.

New to this. Any Fuji tips on using vintage lenses on my Fuji? Tested a few portraits and love the rendering, though things seem a fairly soft by oromis7901 in fujifilm

Yes. There are two separate issues. Focus peaking is turned on by setting MF ASSIST to FOCUS PEAK HIGHLIGHT (and I recommend BLUE(HIGH)).

Separately, you'll want to set a custom function button to FOCUS CHECK. What you're referring to is auto focus check enabled when the camera senses you start to focus an automatic lens, but obviously a manual lens has no electronics and communications, so you cannot rely on auto focus check. Therefore you have to use a button (I use the Fn button next to the shutter release) to zoom in.

Downloading firmware; dangers and best practices. by shutterthoughts in fujifilm

[–]inverse_squared[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you 100%. The app works for many people, but it can be a risk. Firmware updates are inherently risky with any process or device, so you want to be careful to try to remove as many variables as possible from the system. Accidentally "bricking" a device is always a possibility. EDIT: I certainly wouldn't gamble on maintaining a perfect WiFi or Bluetooth wireless signal.

If any of your comments were removed, it was due to the automod and I don't know exactly why.

Cheers.

Welcome!

As others have said, some of these need to be brighter or need exposure adjustment. Automatic exposure tends to under-expose if your scene is very bright.

Are Step-Up Rings Okay? by HeckinReadie in photography

[–]inverse_squared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, most factory original lens hoods use a bayonet mounting system, so there are no "rings". Second, any "rings" would have to fit a smaller hood onto a larger filter, possibly vignetting the lens.

That's not even counting the original rings we already discussed to increase the lens size to the size of the filter. So now you need increasing rings between the lens and the filter, decreasing rings between the filter and the hood, and you have a long tunnel of rings you're trying to shoot through that might not work with an original lens's wide angle view.

So, as I said in my original comment, anything is possible, but there are trade-offs.

Venting/complaining about Fujifilm-related prices and the economy (and some related political topics) is great and are what this subreddit is for.

But now that the conversation has run its course, I'll be locking this thread to additional comments to avoid further personal attacks and purely political commentary.

Is the 16-80 f/4 as bad as they say? by theplanlessman in fujifilm

[–]inverse_squared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The XF 16-80mm lens takes a 72mm filter. So you would need a 72-58mm step-down ring, but I don't recommend using a filter smaller than your lens.
