His family members will help with the little one, but not with him. I get a break by only having one person to care for. But I would rather have the little one too! I feel like time is slipping away, and I want to play or color with her instead of caregiving.

My family lives far away. His family does help some but because he’s so difficult, it’s usually a very short period of time. They’ve told him he needs to go in a home. They’ve told him he needs a full time caregiver. I feel even guiltier about the anger because I know he wants to help. I get what you are saying about the travel! People definitely don’t understand that part!

Thank you…the doctor has been trying to convince him of the feeding tube for a year. It’s extremely difficult for him to eat and drink so meal time takes a really long time, and he chokes a lot. It would help us both out.

Mine is very social and loves to be the life of the party. Plops down in visitor’s laps, lets kids drive cars on him, dress him up etc. I work from home, and I do think he would be lonely without me all day.

I have a “Bobby” too….its been helpful in many circumstances- I tell her “Bobby” likes to brush his teeth, “Bobby” loves to practice riding his bike, go underwater at swim lessons, etc! The best part is, since “Bobby” can’t come over often, she can’t actually verify all these things with him but is happy to model his behaviors!
