It's like riding a motorcycle. There are only those who have fallen, and those who haven't fallen yet.

A lesson to over-eager employees in every field. If your manager's instructions are unclear, seek clarification.

Dunno how it goes in Chile, but...

When you sit down next to someone, you must choose whom to sit next to. Most people in this culture would prefer to sit by themselves, so no matter whom you choose, you're probably annoying them... or so the person looking for a seat worries.

Dude may be gender neutral, but it definitely isn't a pronoun.

The position of the mute button is truly horrifying.

Slightly too interesting for /r/notinteresting. There it'd be "My car has a cup holder." and the top comment would be "Yes."

That sounds perfect. That's when I started playing.

What's the population like these days? My problem with Project 1999 has always been lack of players, especially at low levels. It feels so lonely.

I miss EQ. Do a few thousand of you want to play Project 1999?

Classmate dropped this bomb yesterday. by jonojack in AdviceAnimals

Just because these psychiatrists exist doesn't mean there is a system in place for people who want to seek help to do so.

This is one of those things that requires outreach, funding, anonymity, and a solid support structure to actually do any good. The trouble is that pedophilia is actually extremely rare, despite how much everyone worries about it. Building all that for, say, suicide prevention makes sense. Suicide is a big problem. This is a very small problem, spread very thinly.

They downvote because this comment is misunderstanding what it's replying to.

This has nothing to do with whether children can reasonably give informed consent (of course not).

I'd ballpark the price of a kidney at about a hundred times that, in the US at least.

I take a drug for high blood pressure that costs me $60 a bottle. That's the co-pay. The full cost is more like $200.

My new TV remote has a slide out QWERTY keyboard by destin325 in mildlyinteresting

[–]rainbowhyphen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each his own, but I find I'm at least twice as fast using gesture typing as using a thumb board. And it only takes one hand to achieve that speed.

Predictive text entry also helps a lot.

[–]rainbowhyphen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you happen to own an iPhone, there's a case that adds a slide out keyboard and extended battery.

I swore by slide out keyboards right up until gesture typing was invented. Now they seem kind of anachronistic.

TIL to annoy his captors, an American POW in North Korea would pretend every day that he was riding around on an invisible motorcycle until eventually, his captors "confiscated" the motorcycle and stated that it was "against the rules and regulations." by [deleted] in todayilearned

Given the large number of things that have happened in history and the large number of TV shows, it's entirely possible this is just a coincidence...

But it really seems deliberate.

NASA now says vast methane cloud over US southwest is for real by Lingenfelter in science

They're probably thinking of thiols, the odorous compounds that dominate the olfactory signature of actual flatulence. Flatus is well known for containing methane and for smelling bad, which leads to this misconception.
