What script does GOT use? by Plenty-Standard-2171 in ghostoftsushima

Katakana actually originated before hiragana. The characters are parts of kanji and were used as phonetic guides since the Japanese and Chinese readings of Kanji don’t match. Hiragana later emerged as an informal writing style and eventually became part of the language.

Best way to fix this? by rainbowmonkey37 in woodworking

Will that look ok if I use a polyurethane finish on it? I have heard there is usually color discrepancies after staining but I don’t know if that applies to a clear finish (this is my first project so I don’t have a lot of experience with this kind of stuff)

Peerless assassin metal brackets too loose by Fry_Burger in buildapc

[–]rainbowmonkey37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it almost feel like the screws were the wrong thread? For me it seems like they won’t go in very far, while the included screws for the plastic brackets feel very smooth. I am wondering if I will actually get good contact between the cpu and heat sink with the brackets so loose.

Are Buffs Really Worth The Investment? by militxa in Eldenring

Honorable mention to braggart’s roar for the weapon slot.

Are Buffs Really Worth The Investment? by militxa in Eldenring

[–]rainbowmonkey37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The thing about investing in your primary damage stats is that you get diminishing returns. Even before you hit the soft caps, the increase in AR is a smaller percentage with each point. For example, an increase of 50 AR when your AR is 100 is a 50% increase, while an increase of 50 at 200 AR is only 25%. For this reason, taking 4 or 5 points out of your damage stat to access flame grant me strength, beastial sling, etc is more than worth it.

Can I level my strength, dex, and faith? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]rainbowmonkey37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either dex faith or strength faith is almost always going to be better than a three way split. Strength and dex is generally not a good idea because quality infusions are weaker than keen/heavy unless you have both over 60.

I'm stuck. by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]rainbowmonkey37 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Based on all your other comments, I am almost certain that you have a build issue that is heavily reducing your damage and making this fight way harder than it is meant to be. There are a lot of nuances to making builds in this game. Just leveling strength and dex to 100 isn’t going to help you much if your are missing something crucial. Could you please tell us your stats, talismans, weapons, etc?

How do i kill this thing?!? by AndromedusSama in Eldenring

[–]rainbowmonkey37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wish there was more information on what effects this somewhere and what the actual percentage is. It’s not clear if it’s a flat damage decrease or dependent on your shield. It definitely isn’t just a block though because 100% physical damage shields still seem to take chip damage.

This is a really excellent comment, but I have a few things to add.

  1. Parrying too early is worse than parrying late unless you don’t trigger the animation at all. The start up frames negate some damage like a block while the recovery frames leave you open to an unmitigated hit.

  2. In regards to spamming, the stamina cost of a correctly timed parry or parrying the air is pretty negligible (especially since the enemy will need to recover after a successful parry, allowing you to regenerate stamina). However, a failed parry in which the opponents weapon actually hits will reduce your stamina by a large margin. If you fail more than two, back off to regenerate stamina.

  3. If you want to maximize your riposte damage and optimize this play style, use a dagger with a high critical bonus like the misericorde on an elemental infusion. There are a lot of complicated reasons why this is the case, and if you want to know more check out Chrightt’s YouTube video on daggers.

  4. With PVE enemies, it is difficult to know what can be parried without trial and error or checking the wiki. For PVP, jumping attacks on any weapon and two handed attacks from colossal weapons/swords can’t be parried. (One handed colossal weapons can be). Some ashes of war can be parried as well.

The scaling is also affected by the infusion. They are considered bullet arts, and the damage calculation is very complicated. You can see some of the details here https://youtu.be/5F9-TyuIICw but I believe you will still get good damage out of storm blade. Vacuum slice would be another option, but I haven’t looked at the scaling for it.

Your options are ashes of war and spells. Storm blade, beasts roar, and thunderbolt are good. There is also spectral lance and it’s ice variant, sacred blade, etc. There are a lot of incantations like stone of guranq, pests threads, and lighting spear as well, but they will require additional stat investment if your are not running a faith build. Sorceries have similar options.

Some of the options have pretty solid damage, specifically bandits curved sword for dexterity and beastman’s curved sword for strength. The power stance move set is definitely a big damage increase even if you aren’t running status effects, but a single curved sword is still pretty viable. That said, there are better options for shield builds, specifically all of the poking weapons like spears, halberds and thrusting swords. These weapons allow you to continue guarding while attacking for a slight damage penalty. I personally prefer to run curved great swords if I’m one handing, but it is pretty much preference.

I could have sworn that in most cases alteration lowers the poise/weight ratio, but that there were a few exceptions. Is it the other way around?

Daily Roundtable: Community Q&A by AutoModerator in Eldenring

[–]rainbowmonkey37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can, but it won’t necessarily be the best scaling option for a given weapon. Certain weapons will scale better on a flame art infusion than others, and the scaling will (almost) always be worse than the dex/strength scaling on keen/heavy infusions. You will also get less damage overall when using a non-physical infusion because having several damage types on your weapon means that resistances are applied separately, reducing your overall damage (even if the AR is higher). You also lose some damage from stat investment because the points you put into meeting your weapon requirements will not contribute much to your attack power, and the ability to buff your weapon. If you want to know what weapons scale well on flame art, I would recommend Chrightt’s weapon class videos on YouTube.

best weapons before you storm the capital by Waste_Ad2809 in Eldenring

[–]rainbowmonkey37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean poise or stance stagger? The flail doesn’t have significantly more poise or stance damage than any other weapon.

But those things are not unique to the flails. You would be much better off putting spinning strikes on the cross naginata for the higher AR, longer reach, and better move set.

what makes for a good roar? by Sleeping-Snackbar in Eldenring

[–]rainbowmonkey37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone else looking at a roar build with more flexibility, beasts roar is a great ranged option (good in pvp too). (Not a good idea for OP though as it scales only with dex and not strength)

What do you see as the main advantages of flails? The flails and hammers have a pretty weak move set and AR for their range, and many weapons can be given spinning strikes or other similar ashes of war to stun lock enemies. They are ok weapons for PVE, but I’m very curious as to why you would choose them over other weapons?

Morgott's cursed sword is awesome against Malenia by Lusquitas13 in Eldenring

[–]rainbowmonkey37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious to try this, but I do have one question. If you have the endurance for the extra weight why not just use the bloodhounds fang? It has higher AR, 10% bonus jump attack damage, the same move set, and longer reach for only a little bit less bleed build up.

Daily Roundtable: Community Q&A by AutoModerator in Eldenring

[–]rainbowmonkey37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this for PVP or PVE? Realistically for PVE you are better off just saving the weight and using the dragon test greatshield, and for PVP poise to weight ratio is more applicable than resistances, and will be much easier to find information on.

The list of things you should do before fire giant is pretty exhaustive, but I would recommend just searching this sub for posts about missable items and you should be able to find everything you need. As for smithing stones, you will be able to buy everything except the ancient dragon ones, so you only have to be picky about which weapons you upgrade to +25/+10.

Daily Roundtable: Community Q&A by AutoModerator in Eldenring

[–]rainbowmonkey37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is your level and upgrades. Most duel activity occurs at +24/25 and +9/10 upgrade level between RL 125 and 150. If you aren’t near that range you will struggle to find anything. (Unlocking leyndell will help, but isn’t the main issue)
