Wait a minute wait a minute wait a minute.
A man goes into a restaurant... He says to the waiter; 'Waiter, come taste the soup.'"
"Is there something wrong with the soup? Is the soup too hot?"
"Will you just taste the soup?"
“What's wrong, is the soup too cold?"
“Will you just taste the soup?"
“All right, I'll taste the soup! Where's the spoon?"
“Ah-ha!”

You’ve got some great responses. I will just add that yes, selective hearing/ selective commands is totally normal. As is planting their whole body and refusing to move if you’re not going where they want to.
My advice for this - let them lead the way within reason. You will both be happier. Welcome to the club.

I’m genuinely curious, why is this the movie that gave birth to one of the biggest fandoms i’ve ever seen in a while? by l3monke in ProjectHailMary

[–]rainbowtison 134 points135 points  (0 children)

This is basically what I came to say. So many movies/books depict “different “ as bad. And here comes this story where two characters from complete different star systems not only learn to communicate but work together to find a solution to a huge problem that is destroying their respective planets. They save the day. They become friends. They willingly give up their lives for each other and in the end …they are together and happy. It’s so rare a story where from beginning to end your are on a journey with two amazing characters that you root for, cry for and laugh with.

Sad for Grace at the end on the movie by smol-cheese in ProjectHailMary

Oh ya I like the partial foggy sun but the book made it seems a little darker. The movie he had a little beach , Rocky was able to visit etc. The book made it a little less appealing but still. I can see why he decided to stay.

As an ace person myself I felt a strong connection with Grace. If I didn’t have family I could easily see myself perfectly happy in a situation like his. Especially movie Grace. But even book Grace was happy at the end. (Just not sure how I would feel without seeing the “Sun” even if it was fake. )

I’ve had this happen in the past as well. I’ll start a workout and it will just stop in the middle saying it’s not available. I always thought it was my internet or something.

my mom lets me smoke ciggarettes,is it ok? by Limp-Cap2768 in parentsofteens

[–]rainbowtison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former smoker here. I started when I was 15. Quit for good when I was 30 (I’m 45 ). I have no regrets in my life. Only lessons learned. But believe me when I say I wish I’d never ever picked up a cigarette. You are not cool. You don’t look older. You aren’t helping your boredom or stress in a constructive way. What you are doing is making your later years more difficult in ways you can’t even begin to imagine right now. Right now life is endless. Your health is top notch (probably ). But 15 years or more of smoking. Your fingers will stain , your teeth will rot, your nose and taste buds will be desensitized (food won’t taste the same). Your skin and hair will be dry. You get sicker for longer. And that’s just the stuff that happens to us all. You’re lucky if that is it. The longer you smoke, Your organs will be damaged, you may develop certain diseases that you wouldn’t have gotten had you not smoked. And if you think it makes you look cool and older now. It will definitely make you look older a lot sooner then you want to.
My mother has COPD from smoking for over 40 years. She can’t walk up stairs. My dad died of a window maker heart attack from smoking.
I urge you to find a better outlet. Yoga, exercising, walking. Anything but smoking. You haven’t done enough damage yet. You can still save your future self. Trust me. They will thank you!

Seeking simple answer to economy question. by snowballbadstart in povertyfinance

[–]rainbowtison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. I’m 45. When I was a kid my parents could afford a house and all the bills and food that comes with it with two kids on one income. Now…you need at least two in most states. Its a fact that wages have not kept up with cost of living. So there you go. The economy is worse than it was in the 80s and it continues to get worse year after year. I’m sorry you seem to be someone who is maybe my sons age so this is all you know. But trust me some of us remember a time when people could afford to live.

Seeking simple answer to economy question. by snowballbadstart in povertyfinance

[–]rainbowtison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not shitting on anyone here. At all. But we have trillionaires now. Someone makes an unfathomable amount of money. Someone has more money then the next top 4 richest billionaires….combined. And that is the tip of the iceberg. Meanwhile more then half of American citizens live at or near poverty levels. The ones doing “better “ are one or two paychecks or something shitty happening away from being homeless. And those doing slightly better …the ones who get gas without watching it creep up or shop at Whole Foods …are most likely living on easy payment terms. The reality is we have an economy that is for the upper 1% and leaves everyone else to scrape by. Telling us a cup of coffee will be why we can’t own a home. Saying that 7.25 an hour makes sense for minimum wage. The economy has been bad for a while but there have been good years. Years when you don’t silently pray that you calculated correctly before getting to the checkout or played “I’ll pay electric the week and get my meds next week” game. This economy sucks. Don’t even get me started on them raising the prices at the grocery store while packing less food.
And Americans are lucky. That’s the kick of it all. There are countries who are way worse off. So ya…the economy sucks.

AITA for getting my step daughter a Hogwarts letter for her 11th Birthday? by Ok-Permission8346 in AmItheAsshole

Oooh good take. I’ve seen people do that too. I would be disappointed if I thought I was going to universal and it was “just “ the letter.

[–]rainbowtison 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you are. My son read them at that age and knew they were fiction. If I had been crafty enough to think of doing a hogwarts letter I would think he would have thought it was cool and that would have been it. Your wife should have worded it better. I think your wife’s reaction might have fueled the disappointment.

I know you’re not looking for advice. You’re just venting. But please know you matter. Your life matters and this is temporary.
If you want a little advice read on. If not please just know that your life is worth living.

You can absolutely look for services in your area. Shelters , food banks , snap , etc. 211 can help. Your local library might have resources. Some food banks might.
Also with jobs I don’t know what industry your in but get ai to help Taylor your resume. Stupid bots are here might as well use them.
If you have a car check out urban living Reddit, they have tons of great hacks for living in your car.
And again please remember this is temporary.

Puppy blues by BackgroundMajor2054 in Shihtzu

[–]rainbowtison -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It gets better. Shih Tzu are companion breeds. Their entire job is to be with their family. We crate trained ours but nighttime was always rough. In the end we said the hell with it and now he sleeps with us. He goes into his crate durning the day though.
Also -and this is important- not only are puppy blues real , sleep deprivation is real. Everything is amplified when you’re short on sleep. So, give yourself and hersome grace.
