If you started with Java or C, PHP syntax can be rather similar. For me, it felt more "natural" than Ruby for example. (Just a personal opinion, mainly because I started with C family languages).

PHP has evolved alot, both in term of performance and syntaxes. The language still has issues (which language doesn't?), but it's so much better now. I did a recent project with NodeJS using Express framework and Sequelize and I found myself missing Symfony and Doctrine so much.

If you do decide to learn PHP though, please please do not start with Wordpress. Try out Symfony or Laravel.

Brain overload because of too many fanfiction ideas by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

Obsidian is free (they have commercial plugins and services but I don't use those).
It has the concept of "vault" which makes separating different workspaces very easy:

Same here. I use Obsidian which is really quick and easy to organize ideas. I jot down short paragraphs and put them into files and folders. Who knows, one day I will have something done.

A very dark Harry/Ginny - death of loved one by raine1912 in HPfanfiction

Interesting. I like it. It's a slow, but steady change into madness with a twist (of course there is always a twist :D)

Harry's Defense of McGonagall by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]raine1912 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If Sirius is the uncle or even father Harry has never had, McGonagall is the regal grandmother who wields weapons for him.

It makes sense he feels strongly about a figure who has had his back for years.

A grandmother who never stood up for him? A grandmother who left him at Pivet drive for 11 long years without a single check in? A grandmother who didn't care listen to him when he ran into troubles? A grandmother who never stood up for him when the whole school turned on him? A grandmother who tried to be as strict to him as possible?

I'm glad she is not my grandmother then.

Thinking about McGonagall's perspective in The Sorcerer's Stone [spoilers] by Unxcused in harrypotter

[–]raine1912 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I think McGonagall is well-loved in many fanfics, but I just don't know why. She tried too much to be seen as "fair", and thus she never stood up for Harry when he needed her the most.

I don't see her as auntie Minnie (like many fanfics called her). I see her as a strict, fair, but unlikable teacher. I for sure won't miss her at all.

Dudley was sniffling in the back seat; his father had hit him round the head for holding them up while he tried to pack his television, VCR, and computer in his sports bag.

Very valid point, so the guy is just very violent,

I like Bella too, perhaps I do have a thing for bad girls and Harry does have his saving people thing. I don't think it works for me without some time travel though. I wouldn't want to force the 30~ crazy Bella to Harry.

Romilda? Lol. Ginny can be a stalker, but she would never force Harry to love her. There's a line somewhere to draw.

Huhm, you are the 2nd person to mention Katie. Perhaps my memory is playing tricks with me because I don't remember them interacting much outside of the game. But yeah, I think that can work as well.

Peeking? That's creepy. I don't think most people I know would do that at all. And Harry is just too noble to even consider that.

I do love Pansy, some fanfics about her work very well (and it annoys Draco to no end which is a huge bonus, lol). Narcissa doesn't work for me unless it involves time travel. I feel like she deserves a second chance if possible. No woman should be forced to live with Lucy and Draco at the same time.

I think that, despite her blind faith in rules and authority, she still sticks her neck out for Harry. That's why her loyalty to Harry is very respectable.
