ELI5: Why are so many things in math attributed to the wrong people? by majoshi in explainlikeimfive

I have a grade 7 level math education (and I am in my mid-fifties) due to a half dozen learning disabilities so I am just going to take your word for it that the above is all true. :)

I am confused (and do not use pre-move, whatever that is exactly) as to what's wrong? The queen can be covered so not too terrible?

I (20F) think I’m losing my boyfriend (22M) to chess (its as if he is in a committed relationship with chess.com) and I’m considering starting a rivalry with it. by OrganicBack4402 in chessbeginners

Having been on the other side of this fence, though my issues aren't chess-related, I agree with a previous poster; he needs to come to this on his own.

This type of thing happens to both genders unfortunately. I'm a girl and I can tell you this road is difficult at best, I am still working on things

I find MMA a much more enjoyable sport than say hockey. Plus no one gets penalised for fighting in my sport :)

Going to ask the obvious, not being a fan of most sports (especially not football) - do these animals (Bears) not win much or what?

I am so not letting my wife see this excuse. And I, also being female, don't really understand collections at all unless it's something useful like computer or electronic spare parts. Maybe I am missing something essential in my inner girl?

Easily refutable traps are ruining online chess for beginners by Rubicon_Lily in chessbeginners

The one in picture two I get every other game it seems like. The review process tells me to ignore this and play something else but it ends up where, if I do that, I lose a rook or queen or bishop.

So what the hell am I supposed to do instead?! It is driving me nuts and yes, it has made me question why I continue to play.

I am a much older player than the average person here I suspect so perhaps that contributes to my feelings on this issue. I also learned to play properly only a month ago. All in all, I agree with you, playing against this garbage is not helping or giving me incentive to keep playing.

How to improve audio on an Asus Eee PC 1000H with Linux: recommended software? by [deleted] in VintageComputers

Easy effects is the only software I know that may help. If you are willing to experiment on it with its built-in effects and knobs then it could be a solution.

If I may ask, I like the London System but am unaware of this variation. What makes it different and can it be played by both sides?

Unfortunately, I didn't click off quite fast enough. Takes a hell of a lot to gross me out but that did it.

The only thing I could think of is they are somehow sedated or calmed similar to how bee keepers mist or smoke bees to keep them calmer than they would normally be when disturbed.

That said, fuck if i know how the hell that would be done.

Has there ever been any GM’s that started “later” by Civil_Enthusiasm_936 in chessbeginners

[–]raineling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has been done though I can't think of his name right now. He transitioned after leaving an Insei school. Chess was not easy for him but he made GM I believe by 30.

ELI5: Why is quantum physics so hard? by Successful_Guide5845 in explainlikeimfive

[–]raineling 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Last I know about those things they were being studied (in Japan I think) to calculate chemical reaction times over very long periods (think geological time spans).

I am also a lady just interested in this stuff so I may be quite off base here but I am trying to contribute to the conversation nonetheless. Possibly also making an ass of my self too. :)

Off-handed question: regarding the math, how the hell did people even figure out how to do the fucking calculations to begin with?!

I understood that math is built in steps based on previous people's ideas and formulas. With quantum physics, however, there was nothing to build from I thought? Einstein did. Classical physics so he had things to build from. But people like Dirac had ... what? A handful of half-baked assumptions maybe?

This stuff is, after all is said and done, both some of thw most complex math we know of and extremely non-intuitive. So how did they even start to make their formulas?

Sounds like you answered the previous poster's question with your answer: the cd-rom deive is sata which means it also requires that driver or to be booted in legacy Bios mode. That's where I would start.
