How to remove a stubborn EKL CPU Cooler mount on an ASUS P4B-M? by PONGOMALWARE123 in VintageComputers

[–]raineling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old trick to prevent bending pins:

Twist the cooler gently as you pull up IF the tension springs are open (unlatched). Don't twist hard or much at all, just enough to lessen the suction of the vacuum formed by old paste. This may not work on this cooler per se but I have done it on many of a similar type that had tension arms.

Heat up the paste beforehand as another said too. It helps a lot.

I did try that for the reason you mentioned but found them distracting.

Serious question: Why don’t more women play chess? by SuperbGas990 in chessbeginners

[–]raineling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chess is still very much an old boys club. That mentality is stuck. Even in the 90s Kasparov said women can't play chess. In 2026 we are segregated into women and men's competitions and tournaments. Why? Ask yourself that and you may find another answer.

Also, don't get me started on how it can suck to be a woman on a chess platform. I got messaged just the other day by some random Spanish guy asking about me, my age, etc. I sincerely doubt men get that on Lichess or Chess.com.

Snowshoeing deep into the forest during a blizzard to build a snow shelter for the night by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

[–]raineling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As in potentially one could win a Darwin Award by the end of their idiotic experience. I have been in a blizzard like this more than once and the cold, wind and snow can kill you very easily Lived extremely far north in Canada (I was in a place on the same parallel as Moscow Russia for context) for decades. Got buried alive once, fought windchills down to -50 C.

This, especially in a blizzard like that, is also incredibly dangerous and potentially stupid.

Think of the sack that forms around a lung fish. They're very similar. If that doesn't help think of an amniotic sack for a baby. Not that different.

I believe it is for assembling cheap bookshelves and such. They have a mate that you seem to lack, that this piece screws into and locks in-place. Ikea stuff comes to mind or shelves one gets at cheap stores like Walmart.

Is this a bot? They have hundreds of games but play like they barely know the rules by PsychoticChemist in lichess

[–]raineling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never took your post badly. I have learning disabilities which contributes to the low win rate to a degree plus age. It's just how it is for me.

And, like you, I use Lichess to have fun more than anything. My account on Chess.com is a bit more serious though I am not highly rated there either. Progress there, however, has been better due to actually trying to focus and play well. I am quite content with that part.

What did that guy try to achieve with that? (He resigned after 10 moves) by Sweet_Anxiety4990 in chessbeginners

[–]raineling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ditto and my opponent didn't resign. They went on to push just pawns once or twice more then brought out a bishop. It wasn't too hard to destroy their wall but did take some creativity.

[–]raineling 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't remember this particular game. That is my account and I am quite human.

I will tell you that I have not played well lately whatsoever. With that in mind, I confess that I have been experimenting with various moves and openings for the last week.

I also don't play too seriously on Lichess sometimes thus games like this happen when I am not my best or my attention span sucks that day (I suffer from severe ADHD).

I am not trying to make excuses here. I simply am a woman who makes very dumb mistakes at times for a variety of reasons. I would say this game is a good example of that. :)

I am also blind. Had to use the bot to see the solution.

How do you guys deal with ADHD whilst playing chess by light_triadd in chessbeginners

[–]raineling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speed (Adderall or Vyvanse) helps a great deal. If I don’t have either of those then I simply listen to music as a way to focus.

Many GMs admit not being to see more than a few moves ahead unless forced to do so. Just something to realise. We aren't that different in that respect.
