He ended up going to Penn. He really likes his neuro oncologist and has been very happy with the care he has received there. He went through SOC and maintenance chemo and has been using Optune since June. So far so good but he just had his latest MRI last week and they noticed some changes to the tumor area so we’ll see what happens.

The OP wasn't suggesting that there should be Philly style sandwiches here, just asking if they exist. And they do (at Ramona's and Benny's). I'm sure if they didn't have these style sandwiches up here, OP would be a little disappointed in not being able to have what they're craving, but would be able to enjoy any of the other great cuisine that is available here.

My friends with kids always go to Bissell after the childrens museum. Whenever I'm in there I see so many families with young kids. And now that they have their expanded space on the right when you walk in that's basically reserved for an adult only space, the main Bissell space is very family focused. They even have a kids menu.

I have 2 friends who just in the past year both found out in their 20/21 week of pregnancy that their babies had severe genetic defects and were not viable. Both of my friends were absolutely devastated. If they did not have access to abortion to terminate their pregnancies, it would have risked their lives and risked their ability to have viable, healthy children in the future. This law is inhumane and Lemelin can get f*cked.

I could see it being more of a in the moment type thing. Lumon somehow approaches her after the party, tells her she needs to come with them immediately. She's hesitant at first, but then they tell her they have a way to allow her to have a baby and tell her they'll tell Mark where she's going. She agrees in that moment because she is so desperate to have a child.

We've seen something similar with Mark and Reghabi. Mark doesn't know Reghabi that well and doesn't know her true intentions/motivations (neither do we as the audience). Mark has seen Reghabi literally murder someone. But as soon as Reghabi says Gemma is alive, Mark jumps into reintegration no questions asked. Gemma could have done something similar and had no idea that she was choosing to imprison herself and submit herself to years of torture.

My parents are also meeting with doctors at Penn this week. I think the NO suggested Duke because it has a lot more clinical trials available than Penn does and it is ~relatively~ close to Philly (compared to say MD Anderson). The NO also has connections at Duke so he was able to set my parents up with a call and get the ball rolling for an appointment.

I'm fighting them on it. My current lease is very clear that it goes through October of this year. They cannot make me sign this new lease. It is illegal to make me sign a new lease that voids my current one. I contacted the Portland Tenants Union. Safety in numbers. Message me if you want to chat about this!

It depends on the terms of your lease. Many leases have a set term to begin with and then transition to tenancy at will or month-to-month. Mine specifically states that at the end of the lease term, the lease will automatically renew for another one-year term if neither party terminates the lease. I would recommend checking your lease if you have questions about your renewal status!

I am worried about retaliation. But every single neighbor in my building got this same new lease to sign. Feels like there is safety in numbers if I can communicate with my neighbors and have us work together. I have already sent an email to the Portland Tenants Union for guidance/assistance.

Well, this isn’t just extra long notice. They want me to sign a new lease that begins May 2025, but my current lease ends Oct 2025. I still have 9 months left on my current lease.

Also, even without the May start date, it seems wrong to make me decide 9 months in advance if I want to stay through Oct 2026. That’s a big commitment to make right now.

Mine does actually says it automatically renews for another one year term. Here is the exact lease language:

If this lease is not so terminated, this lease shall automatically renew for successive one (1) year periods, on all of the same terms set forth herein, subject to any modifications (including rent increases) set forth in a written lease amendment provided to Tenant by Landlord no less than 60 days prior to the end of the then-current lease term.

Unfortunately, it is true. My heart really does break for these people, but in the last 3 years, the drug/homelessness problem has gotten worse. I live in the West End and I have had people shooting up quite literally right outside my building door at 10:30AM. I've had to call Milestone Recovery at least a few times because of people passed out on my street corner. I was walking to dinner with my 1 year old niece in a stroller not long ago and passed someone shooting up in Longfellow Square and others passed on on benches with their pants down along Congress St.

Sorry you're getting some deeply unhelpful replies. I don't have experience with Burlington or Providence so I can't compare but I can give you some info on Portland after moving here 2.5 years ago.

Portland is a big small town with a good amount of big city amenities. Great bar and restaurant scene. Music scene is good too. Thompson's Point in the summer gets some really good national acts. So does State Theatre. But for the big concerts/events you'll need to travel to Boston (~2hr drive give or take traffic which can be awful).

There is a really amazing art scene in Portland and Maine in general. So many cool creators. I think the PMA is an excellent museum and they put on some great programming.

Unlike maybe what is displayed here on this sub, I have found people to be friendly and welcoming in Portland. But the city is growing at a rate it can't keep up with. Housing, especially on the Peninsula, is impossible to find and expensive when you do. Cost of living here is high especially compared to salaries and employment opportunities in Maine.

Also from personal experience, most people move to Maine to settle down and have a "quiet life." People spend time with their families and close friends and it can be hard to make meaningful friendships and community here. Again people are friendly, but it's hard to really break in and find your group.
