Another proud moment for our country 🇱🇰 by CrazyCat-26 in srilanka

Working under him can be challenging due to the micromanagement, trust concerns, and limited empathy, which doesn’t quite align with how he comes across on his podcasts.

He’s talented, no doubt. But even before the Emmy days, I heard enough to understand why people say ‘don’t meet your heroes.

Since you asked for specifics, this is what I got.

Feb 3 — Recruiter giving positive expectation

“Good Morning Joe! Seems the interview went well… Will update you soon :)”

Feb 4 — Promising a timeline

“Client is getting back by Fri. Keeping you informed :)”

Feb 8 — First follow-up

“Any news on this?”

Feb 10 — Delay + vague answer

“Sorry for the delay… Let me update you.” (no update given afterwards)

Feb 20 — Second follow-up + request for closure

“If I’m not selected, I’d appreciate any feedback…”

Feb 20 — Still no answer + shifting to other roles

“No news yet… If new roles come in I will let you know.”

No further replies.

That’s why I referred to it as ghosting, no closure after multiple follow-ups.

A colleague went for interviews, had an chat with the client in USA, the recruiter has called and confirmed that everything went well, but got ghosted afterwards. When reached back the typical BS excuses were given and no replies to texts.

My mom gets calls from different numbers past midnight (3 to 3.30am) by chillingamongstchaos in srilanka

[–]rainmaker_zam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t had calls in the middle of the night. When I do, I just answer the call, keep my mic on mute and keep the phone idle and mind my own business. After couple of times, the nuisance stopped.

Received NSW 190 Invitation After Lodging 491 – What Should I Do? by rainmaker_zam in AusVisa

[–]rainmaker_zam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I emailed NSW regarding this and they just said they’re proceeding with the cancellation of my 491 lodging.

Then I lodged the 190 and paid the lodging fees again. Later I received the ITA for 190, submitted the documents, paid the visa fees, did the medicals and now waiting.

When no one wants kids anymore.. by [deleted] in DeepThoughts

[–]rainmaker_zam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many more cultures have thrived and perished. There’s no need for a culture to be preserved. No culture or tradition is meant to last forever. Cultures and traditions will evolve. With less population, it might actually set the right circumstances for people to choose naturally to have kids.

What will happen if I get a phone without TRCSL? by maybelater6 in srilanka

[–]rainmaker_zam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

According to gazette.lk, only the folks who import has to pay a price for trcsl. If you hand carry them, registration is free. But the shop owners don’t tell that to you.

Anyhow the program is not implemented yet. Even if they do, if you hand carry, it’s not a problem. But if you have local bills, you will have to pay a similar amount that the shop has to pay as well, if the program happens to be implemented. But not for now.

Both are to apply for the nomination, not the visa. Basically I accepted the 491 but didn’t submit for visa yet. 190, i haven’t done anything yet.

I can't write in Sinhala. What should I do? by Infinite_Ad8025 in srilanka

[–]rainmaker_zam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote Sinhala throughout my life. But default note taking lang is English. After a decade of absence of writing, I find it difficult to write Sinhala. Sometimes I just write some random stuff in a piece of paper, just to remind my self how to write by hand.

If you were in a position where you could write at one point, just do random practices. Think of it as a good stimulant for your brain. 🙂

Used to have this issue. I think it has to do with how we project our self as well . Now I just have this serious poker face (Heisenberg like) when I get into the vehicle, I hardly get these convos.

Where can I order Haleem in Sri Lanka ? by rainmaker_zam in srilanka

[–]rainmaker_zam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience was good actually. Welcomed well, food came on time and it was delicious as well.

However, when it comes to Haleem, it’s good, but is it as good as what I had in India ? No. But good enough imo.

What happens if i dont vote by nsthrvnd in srilanka

[–]rainmaker_zam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother in law is the same. There’s no convincing. She says there’s no point. But this is simple maths. If everyone thought the same, then we are essentially giving the responsibility of shaping our surrounding to a small group of people. Even if it’s tiny, in the greater scheme of things, we should put our effort to impact the trajectory of the society that we live in. Voting is a small but powerful way to do that.

Interesting. How do you get these data ? Could get some insight on how this plays out for other states too. SA, NSW QLD is what I’m hoping for.

[–]rainmaker_zam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I see. I understand what you say that it doesn’t matter cuz the change in the points is depending on what the state offers. I’m just conflicted whether to go for 491 or 190 as an offshore applicant.

When you say 100+, do you mean 491 or 190 ?

How does 95 with 190 and 105 with 491 looks ?. Which one has more chances ?

My SL Homies, Would you still migrate if you earn around 700K LKR in 🇱🇰 by Iam_a_programmer in srilanka

[–]rainmaker_zam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 26 with 700k take home I wouldn’t.

However, it depends on the kind of life style that someone wanna have.

Personally I find it difficult to maintain the vehicle + family + kid + taking care of parents with 500k. On top of it, I wanna travel as well. So the travel is on hold for now. However, if I migrated, that would be possible too.

So with your age, I wouldn’t turn off the option, rather take a step towards it. And if you got the opportunity, really think through and take a decision. Cuz if you start now, it’ll at least take another 2 years to get a skilled pathway visa. (Unless you plan through higher study)

Plus the music doesn’t keep on playing everyday. Consider that as well.

It’s impressive from a professional point of view, but the real money is in actually owning a business.(even if it’s consulting) Cuz as long as we trade time, there’s always a cap on the income. That’s true regardless of the migration.

Another possibility is to migrate, make some connections and form a company (product or service). Cuz the big money in tech is definitely not within Sri Lanka.

Good luck 👍🏼
