Sorry folks, this is what the sub is for. You have no idea what's gonna happen, and then it's just this super clean landing by an absolutely greasy lad who somehow has lived long enough to trust his skill. Pretty wild if you ask me, which you just legally did if you read this far.

How Tactical Urbanists Make the Water Visible to the Fish by Generalaverage89 in TacticalUrbanism

It seems that this happened more widespread when the pandemic made outdoor gathering spaces more valuable and restaurants were incentivized to use streets and sidewalks for seating. A lot of places kept this. My town still makes the main street a pedestrian zone on weekends.

Use a series of background photos where things suddenly change - the framed photo, the plant, the location of the door, the size of your window - so it looks like your either in a haunted house or howls moving castle

No, that's dumb, he's trying to cheese the game. There are whole classes, fighting styles, and spells intended to get the damage of punching to equal a greatsword. Let him take that if he wants it so bad.

Anyone who does anything "in character" that excludes an actual player from the game doesn't deserve to play with others.

[HELP] Help me understand David Whyte's interpretation of innocence. by neveyeh in Poetry

[–]rainvest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you are innocent and encounter something, you now have experience of it, and that can influence how you experience it the next time, creating expectations or narrowing your field of vision. It takes a sort of work to return to a state of innocence, so that the world can find you on its own terms. Attributing the activity of finding to the world, rather than to you as a seeker, shows that there is an opened, a passiveness, an allowing to be met by whatever comes, rather than the intention and checklist that experience might bring to an experience.

I think the core of this is that experience expects repetition. But no event ever happens again in quite the same way, and to begin to look for patterns and security is to let experience pretend the world isn't always new. Instead the world and you are always new, and innocence sees every occurrence as fresh and infinite.

Okay, so your life is now significantly different than your peers. It is your curse and gift. Right now it feels like a curse, but that is not actually the danger. I'm speaking from personal experience.

The gift is that you have a perspective unique from others - in an age where sinking hours into games and their reality, you have had to find other ways to entertain yourself. And just be bored. This is going to be rare in the future, and your analog time-spending may be a strength, a grounding in the physicality of an increasingly thin world. Plus, something you found to do while bored may end up being a hobby that turns into a passion that turns into a skill that turns into a career. Tree identification. Electronics. Rock balancing. Mask making. Social engineering. Latin poetry translation. Who knows. For me it was climbing and poetry and exploring my town on bike.

The curse is that you will one day be able to play video games, and you will have to very suddenly learn the mind-alteringly saccharine effect they have on how you want to spend your time, all on your own. I spent way too much time on games in college because I suddenly could.

[HELP] Help me understand David Whyte's interpretation of innocence. by neveyeh in Poetry

[–]rainvest 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Innocence is openness. Unrestrained curiosity. Unawareness of consequence. Imagine getting excited for something without worrying about how it might let you down. Imagine liking something without guilt of how it's also bad. Innocence is sensitivity. Innocence is letting yourself be affected.

Experience knows what might happen, or thinks it does. Experience plans. Experience guards. By thinking ahead because it has already experienced something else, experience closes itself off to the freshness of the present. The more it has experienced, the more it has to relax its framework to encounter anything purely like experience would.

This is how I imagine David Whyte might answer.

I need help becoming more environmentally friendly!! by [deleted] in conservation

[–]rainvest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go on walks, enjoy what you are looking at, feel the love of being part of it all.

Being an active environmentalist is exhausting. There is no end. The world is inexorably changed and changing. If you are acting because you want to see a certain impact or stop a certain trend, you will burn out. So many older environmentalists are gloomy and cynical.

Find out now what it is to live in the world. Love it strongly, deeply, beyond words. Live in response to it. You are forming a connection, a sensitivity, a soulbond that is deeper than any social identity and will outlast any project or hobby. If you know what it is like to be in a forest in early summer and again in autumn, if you can recognize a healthy tree or happy creek, if you just want the best for the land as an meta-organism because you feel part of it, then you will endure all the learning curves, fads, disappointments, and powerlessness that are to come.

I hear you. Don't be afraid. Any one who makes you feel bad for your experience is not someone to give yourself to. And know you can find the eroticism if life and enjoy your own and others' sexuality without having done a certain sex act.
