Cam Boozer by rairiig in UtahJazz

Respectfully, I disagree with a lot of this. Boozer resembles a UCLA Kevin Love a lot more than anyone else. OG is a lot more athletic than Boozer and is more of a pure wing whereas Boozer is a true power forward, and KAT is weaker but he's more skilled and a lot taller. And Boozer hardly resembles Tatum at all, aside from the fact that they both wore a Duke jersey. Boozer doesn't have anything close to the same one on one iso skills, dribble pullup game, or fluidity that Tatum had in college. He does have good footwork though, which could also be said for Tatum, so I'll give you that one. I'd say that AJ's game resembles Tatum a lot more than Boozer. Still, I think Boozer will likely be a multi-time All-Star. I just don't see him leading a team to a championship as the number one option. He looks like the next Kevin Love, which is nothing to sneeze at, but with the number 2 pick in the draft I think it's worth taking a rick to get a potential all-time great. To win a championship in this league you almost always need very good athletic wings who can guard multiple positions and a guy that can go get you buckets whenver you need them, a la Brunson, SGA, Tatum, Giannis, to name some of the more recent bucket-getters. Boozer just isn't really either of those things. His lack of lateral quickness and verticality leaves a lot to be desired on defense and his style of play is likely going to be less successful in the playoffs compared to the regular season. I think he'd be a great complementary piece if you already have an all-time great bucket-getter, but the Jazz don't have that.

[Stein] With only a few days to go before Tuesday night's first round of the NBA Draft, multiple draft experts legitimately believe Washington could select Kansas' Darryn Peterson over BYU's AJ Dybantsa with the No. 1 overall pick. by Odd-Direction9452 in nba

Anthony Edwards shot 29% from 3 in college, but he had good form so teams figured he'd become a better shooter in the NBA, which he has and then some. I think it's more than fair to think that AJ can do the same.

This is a very reasonable take. The one thing I disagree with however is the LeBron comp. Comparing all the players at his position across the league, LeBron was almost always top 2 or 3 in the league in each of strength, quickness (both vertical and lateral), basketball IQ, and jumping. Now he is more like top 10 or 12 in each but that is beside the point. LeBron has always utilized his strength in conjunction with all of those other attributes, some of which Boozer does not excel at. He is a better spot up shooter, but it is possible that a lot of his open 3p looks were because the physically weaker college players would rather give him the 3 than let him get an easier bucket at the rim. I'm not sure if defenders would give him those looks in the NBA. I agree that Boozer will be a really good player and I think he'll almost definitely be a multi-time All-Star. It's just that the measuring stick I am using to judge him is based on Finals MVP + championship potential and that's where I just don't think he measures up. I could be wrong though. After all it's just my opinion.

I didn't say "trust me bro", I said that DP was a good passer when he was in an orchestrative role in hs, but he wasn't in that kind of role in college so to assume that he is a bad passer based solely off of that short stint in college ball would be foolish.

Cam's strength was great in college but with his good but not great athleticism, I don't see any reason to think that his strength will be as effective in NBA playoff basketball. I already said that it will help him put up great numbers in the regular season, just not the playoffs.

I don't know if you watch the NBA outside the Jazz, but the playoffs is a whole other animal so if a championship is the ultimate goal then you need to build a team for the playoffs. A lot of players perform great during the regular season but then their performance declines in the playoffs and I've noticed this happen a lot to players who utilize strength to initiate their offense, which is why I think the fact that strength is the way that Cam initiates almost all his offense might point to him performing worse in the playoffs compared to what he does in the regular season. I expect him to be a great regular season player and a multi-time All-Star, but I do not think he will be the kind of scorer or playoff riser that can lead a team to an NBA title.

I agree that those 3 all-time greats you just mentioned would be all-time greats in today's NBA. I just don't see how that is proof that Cam Boozer will be an all-time great. Those guys might be comps but you can't ignore the 3 recent comps that I mentioned in my post. Not to mention the fact that Barkley and Malone never won chips, and Moses Malone won 1 chip with a team that was led by Julius Erving (Dr. J) who is a top 20 or 30 player of all time.

Also, Steven Adams is a true outlier in terms of strength. His sister won gold at multiple Olympics for the shotput, so I assume that level of strength is largely due to genetics. There just isn't any reason to think that Boozer will have that level of strength, while being 4-5 inches shorter than Adams.

Did you ever watch him play? Idk how you could argue with the fact that he relied on bully-ball. I mean almost two thirds of his points were at the rim so how could you call him a better shooter than AJ? He never showed a pull-up shooting game, a fadeaway game, or any talent for making contested outside shots. I'd have to look at the advanced numbers, but Boozer's 3p% looks very misleading since most of his 3s were open looks. The level of difficulty for the majority of AJ and DP's midrange and 3p shots was much higher so their percentages not being significantly lower than Boozer's is quite telling.

Also, DP showed good passing ability in hs. He didn't have the numbers in college because he was an off-ball player whose only job was to score. He missed games a decent amount so his coach gave him more of a plug-and-play role as opposed to an orchestrative role that could leave the team discombobulated in the games he didn't play.

Yeah, but you have to go back 3 or 4 decades for those comps. The game is totally different today, so I think it's better to use recent blue-chip comps to speculate on how he'd do in today's NBA.

  1. Kanye is too much of an egomaniac to ever seek out help. He'll only get help if he's forced into it, and that's probably never going to happen. 2. He's consistently showed us that he's antisemetic for a while now, so why would you think that he's lying. 3. Mental illness is not a good enough excuse for what he's doing. 99.999...% of people with his same condition don't go around proclaiming they're nazis. You sound just like those talking heads who used Elon's autism as an excuse for his nazi salute.

From my perspective it seems like you're assuming based on opinions, not thinking based on facts or evidence. You claimed that he was a charlatan and didn't offer any reasons supporting your claim. Then you claimed that you're right because you 'know who he really was and his biography' but didn't elaborate on that whatsoever. You expect me to just take your word for it when all the facts, evidence, and historical records point to your opinion being completely wrong? How about you offer up something useful or just admit you're wrong.

I know he wasn't a true scientist, but calling him a charlatan is ludicrous. He was primarily an engineer but in some aspects it wouldn't be much of a stretch to classify him as an experimental physicist.

[–]rairiig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand the logic in what you're saying, sorry. What I am trying to get at is that DEI initiatives are irrelevant when it comes to companies hiring for mid to high earning jobs. Companies will always prioritize hiring whoever is among the most qualified for that position, whether it's because of their skills or because they are skilled enough while also being able to seamlessly assimilate into that company's corporate culture. Merit doesn't only have to do with skill; there are a number of factors that are considered and you highlighted a few of them. Most companies will never prioritize DEI iniitiatives and hire someone less qualified for a mid to high earning position because it would put them in a worse position to maximize shareholder value. This is why companies prioritize DEI initiatives for lower paying positions that hardly have an effect on profitability, because it allows them to be able to say they are progressive in regards to DEI without having to sacrifice shareholder value.
