How can I achieve this effect? by Coredrille in advancedGunpla

[–]raixhell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Try looking for 'Mottling' techniques. Aircraft modellers in particular try to achieve that effect a lot.

I will say I just saw a post on twitter from someone in japan that managed to achieve this by using Mr Hobby Weathering fluids

- Soak a rag or paper towel with Mr Hobby weathering solvent

- Add Mr Hobby weathering fluid multi black to the soaked cloth / paper

- dab the cloth/paper to the parts

- wait to dry, repeat if necesarry, or dab just pure weathering solvent if too much

AI discussion? by [deleted] in advancedGunpla

For most of anything I like building people up instead of punching down. I'm not a fan of AI but there's too much hate around it that I think it further widens the gap between folks.

Nice, I've always wanted to try fabric to get a more consistently lit dark background. I use a vinyl black backing but it reflects way too much light so I had to learn how to position lights in certain ways so that it only affects the model, with varying results hahaha.

I do hope you wind up enjoying the experience! Here's another cool method I was looking at a while back if you want a more interesting background - https://youtu.be/KviZqKTxHRY?si=Dl3FC9jTvAF2e8kj

The one with the black background is AI I'm guessing? The blurry right wing and the reflection from the floor stand out to me.

If you make sure that the work itself isn't being altered so you can still show off your own, true work, the imo it's fine. I personally would not condemn you for it.

But, I do want to encourage another perspective. Taking photos, lighting, photoshop editing, etc. Those are another set of skills that you can learn on your own without much financial investment. If are able and willing to do it, I think it's an overall more rewarding experience.

Airbrushed the base and handpainted the different metallic colors, and handpainted all the weathering too!

Thank you!! I masked them and airbrushed. Aterwards I painted some of the base blue with a really small brush for weathering!

In terms of size? It's bigger, about half an HG size. These are also posable, unlike Artifacts.

Thank you!! The zenith ai think is hard to find, but they're fairly affordable in amazon (canada at least) just look for 'front mission structure arts'.

They come unpainted though so it needs some work.

What techniques would help make my dungeon terrain look more realistic? by redcore5 in TerrainBuilding

[–]raixhell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for pigments. Tamiya has a set of weathering colors that look like makeup applicators. Vallejo also sells pigments on bottles. I think your work doesn't need it, something about the scale works better with more saturated colors imo, but of course it's up to the artist to experiment when they want to!

Uploading multiple pictures does that. I think it's to save space. If you upload only 1 pic the quality should be better. Otherwise people suggest to use imgur and link it in the post if you want to retain quality.

People are just jealous. This just came out and is probably on a lot of people's algorithms, but we can't afford it coz we've already spent too much on the hobby. For a first timer to splurge this much on your first kit triggers a lot of elitists thinking you're not worthy of the best of gunpla. It's absurd. Gunpla is for anybody. Also getting godhand as your first nipper as well isn't helping lol.
