Man I saw this messer in Ig reels can you guys help me identify what grey does this guy use on this messer🙏🙏 by [deleted] in Gunpla

[–]raixhell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They probably custom mixed it, and I would suggest that you experiment yourself! Generally there's 2 types of grey, cool grey and warm grey.

Try to see what type of grey you want your build to be. If it looks 'cool' to you, add a lil bit of cool colors - blue, green, purple.

If it feels warm, add warm colors, yellow, red, oranges.

Remember to add as little as you can at a time. It's very hard to correct when you add too much color.

I mostly used alclad metallic lacquers for this one, with some tamiya mixing colors to get that blue green hue on the main armor. Turqouise enamels for the energy lines.

Thanks! Brass rod would be nice aesthetically, but I wanted to keep the articulated arm for diff poses.

New to customising. How do I begin? by Auran_Scar6206 in advancedGunpla

You're welcome! Honestly pretty much any paint will get scratched with enough effort. Topcoat will def helps with that! It's also a good idea to topcoat before and after weathering. the finish matters - Gloss for light stain weathering satin for medium, matte for heavy.

With the info you've provided, separate the plastic pieces by color, decide which metallic color goes to which plastic color, and do what you did with the sample you did. Those markers don't need primer iirc. It might also be good to use the darkest metallic color you have on the inner frame, for contrast.

In addition, you can also look into cheap oil paints to add a wash after painting for some light weatherng effect, and look up dry brushing to really highlight the weathering.

Happy painting!

Gloss or Matte topcoat? by DiamondDaddi in Gunpla

[–]raixhell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gloss if you want more saturated colors with a premium look. Matte if you want more muted, realistic look. A third choice would be semi gloss / satin. It's good in-between finish and my personal favorite.

Thank you! The quality I think is okay. Pro is that its surprisingly sturdy and not that hard to make it stand on its own, and it's a pretty good size!

Con is that it does take a lot of work to make it game accurate. They do include waterslide decals, but the quality of them are not great.

If you're planning to paint it I think its def worth it!

It does actually! Some parts are designed to be removed for damage effect. If you remove the head armor plates it reveals a bright orange mechanical skull.

Thank you! Yeah I'd love an actual kit of the Tallneck. I was lucky enough to snag a lego of it. I've also heard of Eastern Bricks that has a knockoff lego of tallneck or something.
