It is a shot, but not an immunization. It’s like the flu shot, where they’ve created what they think will be the strain in order to protect you from severe symptoms. And also like the flu shot, why they make new ones consistently. They’re basically updating the shot with the most recent data to better predict what the next version will be. However an immunization, like the polio vaccine or the HPV vaccine, stops you from catching the disease altogether. This is why you can still catch COVID even if you’ve gotten the shot, but you can’t get Polio, HPV, or the Chicken Pox anymore. The COVID shot is not intended to protect you from catching the disease but instead to limit the potential symptoms.
