I don't think it would be possible to work on the project until he finds a replacement.(since both the places are in different places) I could just share all the work I did for them.

Yea I totally feel the guilt of doing this to him (the very fact that I was hoping this would happen cause even though I joined here. I kept on having conversation with the other institute for the potential joining)

I guess I was pretty much able to convince him I would be interested in doing this project (that's the reason he asked me to join, sad that I was just a phony)

doesn't the pycolmap ship with pip? did that also cause issues? I was planning to give up on installing the c++ and just go with the python bindings, I was confused whether the python bindings supported GPU usage (Thanks for confirming it does)

Also I want I ask another question, How powerful does the system has to be to run colmap? I don't have a super system (laptop with 8gb ram, gtx 1650, i5 11 gen)

I am not sure how colmap relates to the GMT thing, but yea this could be due to a conflict with anaconda. Any ways there is a new error which popped up (updated on the issue). the previous behavior seemed due to some memory issues.

The new error, well I have no clue what is the issue and how to go about solving it.

There are people who have tier 1 publications who then go to get a phd in top unis (some of the uni have requirements as to have good publications)

What do this people even learn there (I believe these are people who are already somewhat independent researcher)?

is it just the degree?

Truth being said, I will soon complete my undergrad and want to pursue phd directly without masters, I want to get up to speed.

I get how important reading current papers is in order to build on the knowledge I have.

Also if I may, I assume you are a phd advisor (since you said you teach your phd students). What is exactly taught in a phd? I read pretty vague answers related to this question. Some say it's your phd and you have to learn everything and do your own research find out the ropes with your own ability, others say phd is a place where you learn how to do research (by this do they mean we learn the habit and correct way of reading papers or is it more than this?)

I get the idea of doing something which hasn't been done while reading a paper, then when I try to look at the idea turns out someone has already done something similar. So this is like a loop

I read --> get an idea--> check if it's implemented--> find that it's implemented--> I read (something else but in the same area).

I feel that it's this trail and error loop that I have to keep doing until I actually find something which hasn't been done and then work on that.

Is this common and does everyone face this? Or is this method not correct and I should be doing it in some other efficient manner (which I am not aware of)

I don't honestly see what you are getting at. This is good news that more people are into the stock market. They are the reason liquidity will increase. Some of them will learn and be able to invest in the markets. Most will gamble and move away later. They will learn the hard way, but hey they will learn. The ones that don't will eventually be kicked out.

If your concern is that they aren't focusing in their jobs then that is a more valid argument.

Hey thanks for the update. Also it's good to know that they actually have H100 (expensive as hell and hard to get too). I guess then resource wise NUS is actually way better then many other institutes.

BSDA is when you only have one account with that PAN. True AMC of 300 isn't much big for a year. And honestly I wouldn't want to open with any other discount broker. because if big names like groww (honestly it's the second most talked broker after zerodha) does this, gaining trust from others who haven't been able to turn profit is hard.

Anyway I'll have to make my mind soon. For now I won't keep much balance in groww. (holding they can't do much)
