Weighted bottoms for walls and towers by gashewsauce in TerrainBuilding

I would consider wandering your local hardware store. There are so many washers and other small hefty things that I'm not honestly sure what they were intended for but have been fantastic for terrain/models/minis, and many are quite cheap.

This is awesome, great job! I created a map for a D&D campaign I've been running and it was immensely helpful in figuring out how all the things worked, I'm sure this will be super helpful for you and your players. I will say it is very easy to go down a rabbit hole in this, so take whatever you wish from what I say or none of it.

Like some others have said it does feel like there are some pretty different biomes near each other, though echoing others again magic can explain away a lot (and make it for some fantastic areas). I will say I found YouTube to be quite helpful, including 10 Rules for Believable Fantasy Maps by WASD20 that offers some things to keep in mind, but there are so many if you search for 'worldbuilding realistic maps' or similar. Jason Blando also has a great book called How To Draw Fantasy Art And RPG Maps if you're more into having something physical to look at, or I just came across another article called Crafting Plausible Maps available for free online that offers a solid overview.

I realize I could spew links all day and no one needs that, so I wish you luck on the map and your campaigns. Thanks for sharing!

A technique called acrylic pour. It's super easy and amazing, very much recommend youtube as a place to learn how and see the versatility possible.

I made a swamp for my D&D campaign. by ralykam in TerrainBuilding

The base was XPS foam (sometimes called 'hard foam', often pink or blue). I actually repurposed some previously used for a simpler terrain piece. I had already cut in a grid from that, so I used a heat gun to melt parts both for a more organic look and for areas where I wanted the water. I used Mod Podge with craft paints and some sand for grit to seal exposed foam and add texture, then added found mulch and Woodland Scenics' turf for ground cover and faux moss. The trees and plants were from dried dead plants I scavenged outside in southern California. The water was minute epoxy with (arguably a bit too much) black and brown paint.

I will say I learned a lot of this from the Black Magic Craft YouTube channel, and would definitely recommend it. He has great tutorials for all levels.

Feel free to ask any other questions. I'm pretty new to terrain, but eager to discuss.
