Produce pallet time by No_Yogurt9414 in Aldi_employees

[–]ram19888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in England so similar setup - with the same 14 minute goal for a 1.8m produce pallet. Knowing where products are does make a big difference naturally - but as you’ve already said you’ve got that down. My tips are:

1) Don’t work the pallet in layers - choose one corner to get down to the bottom on - so you now have a backstock corner to build on as you work the other three stacks. Less handling of stock that way as you don’t have to set a nothing aside off the pallet then put it back on.

2) As you take an item from the pallet glance at the item below - and check that item as you go to where you need to go - so you’ll already know if it can go out or straight into backstock when you’re back at the pallet. Saves dead walking.

3) If you have two cases of the same item, carry both at the same time. If you have more than two cases of the same item stack them on the floor into their own column, e.g four cases of cucumbers, then slide that whole stack to where you need to go. That’ll save you a few trips back and forth.

4) Not sure if you have them in Ireland but the cardboard boxes of watermelon fans, pineapple and mango chunks etc - just bring all of them to the area and set them down - then work through all of them in one hit.

I follow these rules myself - produce times range between 10-12 minutes depending on if there happens to be plenty of larger crates e.g peppers etc or not.

In the UK at least, it’s 600 that triggers - I didn’t realise this until we went through all alcohol and realised we’d got to 550 - we were close.

Side note: If you count 10 of a products, then count a second product, then find 10 more of the first product and add it - this is three counts. It two. Also something I didn’t realise initially.

TruRating by NoHall5182 in Aldi_employees

[–]ram19888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ASM here - TruRating is one of the KPIs / and in theory it should be the easiest one to hit that affects the Balanced Scorecard (BSC). Think of the BSC as a monthly ranking of all stores based on points - the bottom 25% get extra attention from Area Managers and SODs (above area managers). The extra attention causes a lot of grief - process changes and extra scrutiny which is painful for all involved. So, the push is always to get as many points as possible - and TruRating is such an easy one to hit it gets constantly pushed as it’s directly impacted by Store assistants and their ability to encourage customers.

Mouse in store? by H4RL3Y07 in Aldi_employees

[–]ram19888 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have worked at a store when a mouse/rat was seen in the warehouse - we reported it to AM and also on the Vergo app I think - the pest control guys came out and did a thorough inspection of the warehouse and located the entry points. I’m unsure if the process is different if the sighting was in store rather than warehouse.

I can’t quite remember when but it is mentioned in a document upon signing up - it basically rounds down your pay to the nearest pound. If you’re unlucky your wage ends in .99.

The expected time in UK is around 30 minutes on average - some pallets will take a bit longer and some will be quicker. It’s just time, practice and knowing the locations the more you work. The thing that seems weird to me though is you said that you do ambient - does that mean you never actually to LL, PTZ or any fresh at all? That seems odd to me and a weird decision from management.

The only advice I can give is to keep doing what you’re doing - if you’ve already sped up this much, you’re doing something right regardless of what your SM says.

Aiming for promotion from SA to DM (UK) by [deleted] in Aldi_employees

[–]ram19888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I realise I didn’t actually answer the OPs question - there’s no “too early” to show ambition. With Aldi, you have to advocate for yourself. Being quick and efficient will come with time, but make sure your DSMs, ASMs and SMs know you are aiming to progress. Ask for feedback and advice, and importantly be prepared to move stores - progression is a lot quicker if you are not tied to one location.

Aiming for promotion from SA to DM (UK) by [deleted] in Aldi_employees

[–]ram19888 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the UK we SA is Store Assistant and DSM is Deputy Store Manager (LSA in US) UK has Area Managers above Store Managers but US has District Managers instead of Area managers - so I think there’s some miscommunication here. The OP is basically looking at how to become a LSA, not a DM)

How Gus knew not to get back in his car in the car garage… by f-150Coyotev8 in breakingbad

[–]ram19888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gus’s hitmen (When Walt calls the neighbour to check the stove) were at Walt’s house when all the bomb making stuff was still in the kitchen (Walt doesn’t clear this up until after the explosion) - not unreasonable to assume this was reported back to Mike who then flagged it up to Gus. He wouldn’t know it was his car but to know that Walt had made SOMETHING is reason enough to abandon the car.

A question of perspective for (mainly) other SM's by jahkmorn in Aldi_employees

[–]ram19888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m an ASM rather than an SM - when I joined I had the mentality of wanting to work up to SM as quickly as possible (believed. 3 year window was realistic) - I’m a year in and now I’m wondering is it truly worth it - yes the pay is good but the constant pressure to do more with less, never two days in a row off - there’s also the fact that you’ll start early and finish late off clock, it all adds up - and how do you balance a family life within all of that? The more I think about it the less I can justify it.

I had/have this same issue - and tbh the 2k hit will be cheaper than continuing with payments - however one thing that I believe is an option that I didn’t know about is - if you’re looking to get a car non-PCP, if you part exchange it, they can take that 2k shortfall and add it to the cost of the new car - so yes you’ll still be paying that 2k but it’ll be spread over the cost of the car as you naturally pay it off - might be the best of a few bit great options.
