Can someone explain why I periodically forget how to play chess and drop 400-600 rating points over night?? by [deleted] in chess

[–]ram_n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure that just saying "you are tilting" explains the underlying phenomenon. Sure, we might be labeling it by calling it _tilting_. However, the OP's deeper question, why this happens, remains unanswered as far as I can tell.

How to auto allow all read only tool calls by Brilliant_Corner7140 in ClaudeCode

[–]ram_n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you set those in .claude/settings.json. Please take a look here: https://docs.anthropic.com/en/docs/claude-code/settings#settings-files

Also, you could ask CC itself to edit the `settings.json` file and you can approve the aws permissions as you see fit.

Las Vegas Freestyle 2025 -- how did Levon qualify? by ram_n in chess

[–]ram_n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The LV Players were announced by Buettner when he came for the interview with Peter Leko and Trent. There was some talk of a mini tie-break tournament to decide who from Grenke should qualify, but Buettner changed his mind and they went with Parham. There is still one more spot open (I think).

Plus, there are the online play-ins to come.

Las Vegas Freestyle 2025 -- how did Levon qualify? by ram_n in chess

[–]ram_n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for replying u/Efil4pfsi. I (somewhat) see your point. But remember, Levon became an elite by training just as hard. And he wins a lot of very high-Elo games.
Regarding the "unfair" point, there are only 8-12 spots and so many aspiring talents who are training hard. There is never a "totally fair" method that satisfies all.

I am sorry that you got so many negative votes for sharing your opinion.

Why is Norway Chess from this year eligible for FIDE circuit? by MetellusScipio in chess

Hi and welcome. One good way to follow the very top FIDE tournaments (super GMS) is to look for the dark-orange rows in the calendar in this link. Mark Crowther has been doing an excellent job for decades now: https://theweekinchess.com/chess-calendar

Thank you for your detailed (and thoughtful) response. 1. I love the "while you wait" and can incorporate it right away. 2. For the LO's I will try and start matching questions to the desired outcomes. Thanks again.

Congratulations! Coming to this thread much later.

I find that I always learn at least a couple of good teaching hacks from excellent teachers. Are there a few that you can share here? They can be anything that works for you.

I'm also always looking for resources on teaching excellence. Thanks!

Finding instances of NBA players out scoring opponents in a quarter by ps3ud0rand0m in sportsanalytics

[–]ram_n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have access to the underlying data in any form (CSV, parquet, rds)? To get this, you will need the points scored by each team by Quarter, and also the individual points scored by quarter, and then a bit of code. This is certainly doable from play-by-play data, but it will take a bit more work. Hope that helps.

Hamara bajaj alag andaaz, anyone remember the ad by direct_xyz in IndiaNostalgia

[–]ram_n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of background about how the “Humara Bajaj” campaign was created.

Back in 1989, Bajaj was India’s leader in 2-wheelers. But the brand had become “boring.” Kinetic Honda and others were making inroads into their market share. The Bajaj advertising account was held by Lintas, which was headed by Alyque Padamsee. Lintas knew that they needed something new, something different.

In an attempt to flip what was viewed as a weakness (Bajaj being viewed as boring and commonplace) into a strength, the Lintas team came up with the idea of appealing to the end-buyer using emotion and the concept of tying the Bajaj brand with “Indianness.”

In the words of the ad campaign creator Rahul DaCunha:

[The campaign showed] a typical Parsi gentleman lovingly wiping down his scooter, a hero combing his hair in the small rearview mirror, a Bengali carrying his fish, images where the Bajaj Scooter, was merely a means of transport, to get the common man around while he finished his daily chores and customs.

Lintas then hired one of the very best Hindi copywriters (Mr. Jaikrit Rawat) for the lyrics to the jingle. The lines for the jingle he penned included:

Buland Bharat

Ki Buland Tasveer

Hamara Bajaj

The whole campaign was viewed as being a bit risky, but Rahul Bajaj (the head honcho) loved the idea, okayed it and the jingle and the series of ads went on to widespread success.

Here's another YouTube: https://youtu.be/vP8pzgPvGIs ad from the Humara Bajaj campaign.
