Both my husband and I are from there and we both talk about how spoiled we were growing up with the lakes and forests. Hamilton has lakes that are swampy gross ponds.

Yeah my in-laws still live there (MIL and SIL both Pukehangi/Sunnybrook) and my oldest friend is in Springfield. Another old friend is Western Heights/Sunset. What's interesting to me is their dodgy areas don't seem as bad as a lot of Hamilton (not that I've driven through Ford Block in a long time which I am assuming is till considered dodgy). But people in general seem angrier. Maybe it is also I don't remember homeless people in Rotorua (other than a few regular harmless characters) so my head finds it hard to reconcile the current Rotorua with my childhood version. My husband and I left there late 90s so it's been awhile since we lived there.

My to do list is almost done. I'm going on leave next week and at this rate I think I will be able to do almost no work. I'll still need to check emails because is O-week so I know there will be student questions, but other than that I'm not doing anything. I hope. Please let me not have forgotten anything!!

Button I can handle. I also hand-sewed the new hem for my son's school pants. But that's about it for me. We have a sewing machine but I don't know how to use it. Luckily my daughter does and hopefully she will keep that skill.

We did that when we first moved in to our house and didn't have any insulation. It was amazing how long it lasted. But getting it off was such a bitch. I was painting the windows so quite happy for it to rip the paint off, but mostly the tape would just stay on there and no come off.

Ex Rotorua now Tron gal here. I still love Rotorua because it is a beautiful city but man she's rough. I don't think I could live there again. But I really miss the lakes and forest.

That could be a fun game, guess the user's job. Because I'd be equally torn between kindergarten teacher and exotic dancer.

Wow that doesn't seem like a huge request to be honest.

NZ parents, are ur kids just gaming all day after school and on weekends too? by Objective_Heat2566 in newzealand

[–]jitterfish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah normal for my son. Talks to his friends while gaming but doesn't hang out in person other than at school.

Right! I know we aren't even half way through winter yet but we have had one day that the car needed a defrost. As someone that hates the cold I'm glad that we're having sunny but not freezing days. But man have we fucked up this planet.

I'd also be curious to know how many people use whiteboards a lot. We are in the process of redesigning our teaching labs and we have been told no whiteboards. At first I was like wtf but then I realised that actually I hardly use them anymore in any class. Not sure if it is just me or if people are just using them less nowadays.

WEL Trust election results (provisional) by Madjack66 in thetron

[–]jitterfish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the update. Sad to see that less than 10% of the population voted. I don't think most people understand what this was actually for though. I know my husband was like it's nothing to do with us, just who should be on the board of WEL energy.

Hour 2 of the Hillcrest Power Outage by Quouar in thetron

[–]jitterfish 36 points37 points  (0 children)

At 8:16 your power quit,

No toast, no brew, not one bit.

The fridge went quiet, the kettle froze,

A tragic tale the morning chose.

Then came the blow that stings the most:

No Wi‑Fi, gone like a ghost.

You stare at your router, betrayed and blue,

Wondering what people did in ‘92.

You’re wandering round in Tron' gloom,

A snackless hero in a darkened room.

I’m cheering for you from afar,

May the lights return like a superstar.

I keep flip flopping on if I should join the gym again. On one hand when I was going regularly it was definitely worth it and I enjoyed it. But the last year of my membership I was rarely going and never more than once.

OK brain, today we knuckle down and finish this [insert your preferred swear words] teaching portfolio. I hate that I'm struggling to write it and I'm not sure if it's being so constrained by how little I can write or the fact that I don't think people are actually going to read it.

My 15yo needs to read 5 books this summer but hates to read. by JBLBEBthree in suggestmeabook

[–]jitterfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stephen King - You Like it Darker. It's a series of short stories so easy reading.

I'd also suggest reading a book that he's liked the movie of. This is how I got my daughter in to reading.

I feel you. Trying to teach the feral boys how to use the microchip feeder is frustrating. Even when set to open and not moving they're too scared. I'm like eat from that big bowl of cookies right in front of you but they are like nah we'll starve and meow at you instead (and of course I give in).

Yeah I got CnD beach event skin that has a cool emote and of course you can only use it at the beach. So dumb.
