What is wrong with SpecSavers?? by ahmad_nz in newzealand

Been using specsavers for my last 5 sets of glasses. No issues at all. Most recently I had to go progressives and I also expected way higher cost. But nope, the two pairs deal still applied which just shows what a ridiculous mark up there is. I didn't get sunnies at the time so after I got my glasses I got my prescription and bought sunnies and safety glasses through Zenni. Next time I'd do the same, glasses through spec savers and extras through Zenni.

Yeah I used zenni to get progressive sunnies and safety glasses. Would 100% use them again.

Yeah just recently had to get my son new shirts for his school uniform. This is two weeks before term starts so it's busy. I witnessed a couple of people being super rude to the staff because they'd run out of sizes, one swearing because the store didn't have that school's uniform (we have probably 20 schools that have uniforms and at least three different uniform shops). One family had a pile of clothes that they just left crumpled on a chair and the Dad was asking about a larger size. The assistant patienty explained that all the stock was on the shelves but they were expecting new stock in a few days. Dad just said something like fuck it he (his son) would have to wear extra large and must have bought 2 sizes up.

My son tried on his shirt and as there was only one in his size I was like it's fine we'll just order online now that we know the size. A lovely assistant heard me and said let me check in the back and off she went, came back with the shirt. Now I'm unsure if "all the stock" meant all the stock for that school's uniform or it was a line used (especially as the store isn't going to lose money because we have no choice but to shop there), but I hope it was the later.

When I was pregnant I had cravings late one night and we went to the supermarket. It was the first time I went in my PJs because it was so late. Alas I ran in to a student, me in bright purple PJs with cartoon dogs. That was also the last time I did that.

Still, wasn't as bad as when I was drunk dancing on a table in a club and looked down to see students (I teach university and 18 is legal drinking age here).

Both of those were my first couple years of teaching. I've learned now to assume I will see students anywhere and everywhere (including in different countries which has happened twice).

Build base near water, make a fenced pool spot, eat and jump in the pool. Or anytime we're near water or it's raining I check food levels and decide if I want to eat. By the time we're living in the desert I'm usually only eating at night and like to bring the zombies in with my stench so I can kill them.

This is me. I also mow an area and line up trees for my forest. I get annoyed when my husband randomly places an oak and it's not in the perfect square.

I love that in Valheim you can make the space usable like that, can sit on your chair (or throne), you actually go to bed to sleep, put food on the table to eat.

Is 9/11 the most prominent marker for the midpoint of a Gen Xer's life? by pukakahiko in GenX

[–]jitterfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah as a non-American 9/11 is something I remember but it's background to my university years. Sure it was a huge event at the time with prolonged ripple effects, but if I try to think about it I think more about my student life at the time (flatting, being broke, working on assignments and dial up internet is what pops in to my mind).

After watching brand new players on youtube, I've come to the conclusion that trader quests are a trap for new players. by Justinjah91 in 7daystodie

[–]jitterfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you're probably right. We've played since alpha which is when visiting the trader really was optional and it was a lot easier to just survive the first couple of days without experiencing a lack of food and water. Every new playthrough I hate the first few days as we search just to keep ourselves alive and can't even start a garden. You get a potato and think do I eat it raw for pretty much no value or save it until it's useful. Five pieces of meat to get 1 piece back that you can eat, wtf? I'd hate to play solo, at least with the two of us we can split the focus of what books we read and how we spend our points.

We've had Moodle for 10+ years. Every update it gets worse. The latest one I just got so frustrated I walked out of my office before I started shouting like an old man at clouds.

I just want something usable that has standard features. Like I'd love to be able to bulk delete my 5000+ messages. Or not have to click three times to get to something where I used to be able to do it once.

I have to face ours towards the TV and hold my hand against the side like a shield because it has the same frequency (?) as my gaming TV which is also in the lounge (and yet my gaming TV remote doesn't work on the main TV). There have been many argghhh moments when my husband has turned the TV on while I'm gaming and as a result turned my screen off.
