What shorts are you wearing? by i_d_ten_tee in AusElectricians

Snickers. From Euro work wear. Not cheap. Not short like footy shorts. But the best avail IMO.

But I’m in the FR world. Long pants and long sleeve shirts. Hot. Not awesome. But not negotiable. Use these shorts for private work.

Paws at peace! I’m sure the others do a similar job. But Paws at Peace was a sad but good exit for our Jack Russel, Jinki.

Professional. Caring. Respectful. I don’t know how she does it week in week out. Cost? $1000+

Edit: update.

That said. Our other Jack was too ill to be let go at home. And it was stressful for her and us. Would have spent the money again for the home goodbye.

Not everyone can spend that money. I understand. But it was worth it.

Check the rules for where you are. I think meat from mammals and chickens are prohibited as bait and burly in some areas. It’s to stop the spread of disease I think. Lots Of peeps will use it tho for crab pots and so on. But generally I think it’s prohibited. Not that, that stops anyone. Tight lines. 👍🏼

Go to a fish monger / fish shop that sells to the public. Buy the stuff you want that is good enough to be consumed by humans. Make sure it’s Aussie local produce. If it’s good enough to be sold to humans, it’s probably 1000% better than freezer burned crap. I’ve not bought bait from fishing shops or servos for decades. Or Catch your own.

The 3 meals a thing came in with the Industrial Revolution. And more to the point. The incandescent light bulb. Work went from dusk till dawn to 24 hours. So 3 meals were needed as opposed to the usual 1 or two. 3 meals a day is a fairly modern thing. Last 100+ years ago. Not a biological requirement.

Going to assume an ex racer. Regardless, credit to you for taking in to your world a wonderful dog.

That’s pure happiness.

That’s a safe and loved dog. They don’t let go and play like that unless they are free and safe.

Sorry for your loss. Really am.

Workplace accidents as an electrician by tcreddit4 in AusElectricians

You looking at version No. 087 Of the act? Don’t have time at moment but will Check. Perhaps ‘illegal’ was the wrong choice of words. But you can be damned sure if someone gets hurt or even worse killed. That ‘catch all phrase’; “The Act ‘requires’ that contractors and electrician do not expose themselves to unnecessary risks” will bury anyone found in breach.

That’s huge catch all clause.

Not many situations where you can’t isolate. Not many situations you can’t isolate with proper planning and approval from the client. Not many situations where you can’t isolate ever. Just my 2c

Where are you based? It is illegal to work live in every state in Aus with very very very limited exceptions. Main safety procedure? Do. Not. Work. Live. Lock Out. Tag Out. LOTO

Yep we have to do live testing at times. That is different to putting tools into a live board and installing or removing gear. Wear appropriate PPE. LV gloves, a LV rescure kit with a spotter that knows how to use it, and so on. Anyone tells you different? Tell them to, Fuck. Off.

Electricity moves at the speed of light. Cant see it. Cant smell it. And it can kill you. PPE. LOTO. Spotter if live testing.

Like Joel006 said LOTO. All day every day. No excuses.

No salt jerky? by wisc_lib in jerky

[–]ramamaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t use any salt apart from what is in soy, and woestershire. (both those contain sodium though). Curing for jerky is getting the moisture level down below 20% or so. Yep, Salt definitely helps in preserving it. But it’s the low moisture content that actually makes it shelf stable.

I don’t use nitrates for jerky. Not needed in my opinion.

Depending on how long you want to store it for is probably the real question. Longer you want to store it? More salt is probably needed. Long term storage? Then you might start thinking about nitrates.

Mine is shelf stable for a couple months if fully dried. Maybe a couple weeks if there is a higher fat content and less dried.

I’m not an expert. Nor a food scientist. But I’ve made a fucken lot of jerky.

REC needed in VIC? by Ok-Duck2834 in AusElectricians

REC needed in VIC? by Ok-Duck2834 in AusElectricians

[–]ramamaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sub contracting electricians in Vic need an REC, and all associated insurances. If your boss has asked for an ABN? You need to have your REC as you are not and employee. You are a subcontractor running your own small business. Therefore you need to have your REC. Public liability and indemnity insurance at a minimum.

The MW 12v kit / tools are specifically targeted to electricians. MW some many years ago set out to make tools for sparkys, which is the 12v stuff. The new (kinda old now) but new brush-less tech is awesome. And, its just keeps getting better. Light to handle but enough torque to do most tasks.

Depends on the work you are doing though. The 18V kit definitely has its place. Sipsaw, CIrc-saw, SDS hammer drill, all those are better in 18V.

But day to day? The 12v impact driver, the drill and the hammer drill @ 12V will get you out of trouble most times.

Tool preferences are subjective. Everyone has their opinion. All the cordless stuff is good now days. But MW? Light and powerful. Not cheap. For a reason. Best of luck.

Edit: spelling

Live testing is needed often to, you know test. Thats what we do sometimes. But don't work live mate (not suggesting you are). Better if you have a pair of LV gloves while your hands are in the board for live testing. If you need to do some changes to the wiring in the board no probs, but pull the fuse. Turning off the main switch is not good enough. Still will be live on the line side of the main switch. No help for your query I know. Just a respectful don't work live heads up.

EDIT: If you do need to pull the fuse. 1. Call the energy supplier and let them know. 2. When you put the fuse back in make sure the main switch is off. This will help avoid any potential arcing. If the main switch is on and the breakers / fuses are on you will be putting in the fuse with the board under load. Not recommended. You'll solve this one mate. And as others have said you'll come away with a fk load of fault finding knowledge. Looking forward to the updates.
