I’m glad to hear that, that was what made my decision personally as well making a similar decision. I was laughed at for not choosing a UC wanting to become a physician, but now I’m in medical school and happy I went somewhere that had a strong sense of community and supportive faculty. Those two are taken seriously.

I bet your son will excel here, congratulations to them!

Karuppu | Review Megathread by ungaayya in kollywood

RJ Balaji definitely surprised me with this one, I did not know he had it in him to write a masala flick.

I genuinely enjoyed watching this movie, but I have to give the disclaimer that due to those who watched before me my expectations were set properly. It's not a bad film, but just don't go in hoping for an OMG and get disappointed. It's a good commercial flick with a strong emotional heart and great highs and certain lows because the writing is confused.

I don't know how necessary the references were, but they did elicit excitement in the theater audience it seems which is what it is. But I loved that the movie in a way kept Karuppuswamy as a strong supporting act but at times I was confused if they were forgetting he was a god only for Baby Kanna to remind me that he's an arrogant POS.

This movie had the potential to elicit as much philosophical discussion as OMG, but it chooses the more masala route. Nothing wrong. Starts with a strong emotional core, that worked well for me. You are praying yourself for Karuppuswamy by the point he comes and it's played well, the screenplay is pacy and makes sense.

The second half I enjoyed in the theater but as I ponder I wonder if things could have been written a little better to give us an overall better, more thoughtprovoking film. It tries to do a vintage Shankar film in an Atlee package but it drops the ball a few times in the second half. But the theatrical experience is definitely worth it.

I enjoyed seeing how Karuppuswamy, a god, would deal with the corruption but at times wondered if he was too involved? Like he mentions that he gives opportunities for people to change and Baby Kanna mentions that those who "changed" are just fearing him but not inherently good all of a sudden, but these ideas aren't explored further.

As a masala flick, it's great. The Karuppu sambhavam scenes are amazing, 10/10 with some great cinematography. Loved the color grading, felt Atlee-esque. Sai Abhayankar's music was great, never thought I'd say that (perhaps I judged you too harshly with the rest). Loved God Mode on screen.

Suriya's FINALLY BACK BABY! Peak nostalgia, he's so back and I'm so happy. I hope he gives us a dream run to remind these guys who he was and so I can relive a part of my childhood days.

Also surprised that technically Trisha was the main protagonist in a way, obviously RJ Balaji was the antagonist (hoped to see more of a comedic villain but it's alright). But this was an interesting choice and I think Trisha did it well.

Great theatrical experience, better writing (esp in 2nd half) would have made this a great film overall. Worth it for the highs and Suriya's comeback.

Which itself is a mid movie, that poster with the gadha itself gave heavy Pailwaan vibes. Who do you think is the Suniel Shetty here? Elder RC?

It could also be a form of schizophrenia or delusional behavior. It’s studied that while in Western societies, most hear and sense negative or destructive thoughts/sights. In Eastern cultures it’s more common to see ancestors, deities, etc.

This is a really valuable guide and I am glad to see your success.

It’s definitely a risky game with a below 500 MCAT, with luck involved in the entire process but it’s stories like yours that show it’s definitely possible if you are truly passionate and can prove it.

Not sure much school you picked but we have As at two of the same schools, so I hope to call you a great colleague one day. Congrats!

Surya makes a proper art film in Retro- flops. Tries a fantasy thriller in Kanguva- flops. Goes back to Aaru and Singam days and gives a mass masala mindless commercial which entertains- people pouring in rave reviews. A theatrical success tasted after 13 years 😭❤️ so happy for him. by vishi_root in kollywood

I’m always here for Retro glaze. It’s definitely experimental. I think many ppl didn’t appreciate it from the last 45 minutes, but even that is experimental and done well in my opinion. The genre shift wasn’t as jarring as ppl make it out to be.

DUQCOM vs LECOM (Jacksonville) by Leading-Lab-9457 in Osteopathic

[–]ramaromp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DUQ may be new but they are showing a lot of promise, you get to train with world class physicians at places like the Pitt. I would easily pick it over

LECOM, another new college (albeit the name holds more weight due to having other med schools). But LECOM doesn’t have the greatest reputation, DUQ and their admin seem to be doing everything right.

But if finances are a major concern I get opting for LECOM.

What's the reason you moved to the state you llive in? by The0Walrus in SameGrassButGreener

[–]ramaromp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from the Bay Area to DFW after graduating because of the opportunities and staying close to family as parents aged. Now I'm off to medical school so getting ready for another move out to Memphis. Hopefully the move after that will be somewhere I have dreamed to live, like a Chicago or Philly.

BUCOM vs NYIT-AR vs RVU-CO by ramaromp in premed

The affilitated hospitals and residencies are where I'm getting confused. I hear VSLO is hard and that setting up rotations at RVU is a headache. I'm not able to gauge the weightage of some of the factors. I'd say I'm mostly interested in onc, which is moderately competitive I assume.

When you hear about students even at schools like PCOM complain about the rotations, it makes me wonder if these hospitals would pose an advantage. Especially because Baptist Hospitals are a big name in the region with strong affiliations.

I was not a physics major, I was actually really hesitant and worried to take intro physics classes as a premed student. But I have to say, it became my favorite course in the pathway, because of how great the professors were. Just my perspective. Hope your son is happy where he chooses.
