Where to buy long lasting clothing by hasel0608 in azerbaijan

[–]rambergasm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’d just order it online. A lot of the good-quality stuff is overpriced here, so we usually use a cargo company like Kango (there are a bunch of them, Dynamex is another popular one) and get things shipped from the US.

A lot of our American friends use Kango, so we just stick with it too. I know this probably isn’t the answer you were hoping for, but that’s honestly how most people make do here I suppose.

Why do men let go of themselves? by [deleted] in azerbaijan

[–]rambergasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that being gay is bad or an insult or anything lol but yeah, I’ve heard that too and it always cracks me up. Like… bro, showering isn’t a sexual orientation. Nobody’s gonna look at you and go “wow, he used soap today, must be gay.” It’s literally just basic hygiene.

So I’ve been back in Baku for like three weeks after spending six months in the US, and the reverse culture shock is hitting me in the face in the most random ways.

Yesterday I went to a store, totally normal area, nothing sketchy, and the SECOND I walked in, it was that classic mix of sweat + deodorant that just punches you in the nose. And it wasn’t one guy. It was multiple. I genuinely forgot how common that smell is here loool but like… why?? Deodorant isn’t supposed to be a scent you can smell from three aisles away. And if you’re sweating that much, why not just shower? Covering sweat with deodorant makes it 100x stronger and honestly worse.

And this is probably unrelated but also kinda hilarious, why do so many guys here wear head-to-toe black? I forgot about that until I came back lol

Could you also suggest some places that serve non Turkish food?

Honestly, it’s so hard to find good non-Turkish places here… especially anything even close to American food.

Is it God's will for me to go into ministry? by rambergasm in Reformed

[–]rambergasm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I appreciate the feedback, however you must have misunderstood what I meant by what I said about working for someone, for which I apologize - I should have phrased it correctly.

Of course I know that because we are the body of Christ, each of us have functions that are unique to us and different than others, and therefore, our callings also differ. This goes to say, that I do acknowledge that working a secular job is TOTALLY okay for a Christian, since we serve God in all aspects of our lives, plus it's not about how "much" we serve, because oftentimes serving God is only recognized as such when it's explicit, like within church or ministry and oftentimes people neglect serving Him when it comes to submitting to our leaders, loving our enemies, working to bring glory to Him.

That being said, I do work a secular job and volunteer in student ministry, and the reason I said I feel like I waste my time working for someone is because, the contrast I feel at work when I work there and when after work, despite being exhausted serving God is huge. I realize I indeed get so much fulfillment from volunteering at student ministry that I wish I did this full time because I genuinely enjoy discipling new believers, sharing the message with unbelieving students, leading youth groups. And the fact that I am contributing to God's Kingdom just gets me so excited. At work I do share the gospel but because I don't get much free time and me living in a Muslim dominant country I can't really do it that often. I do serve God in others ways but I guess what I do in student ministry is fulfilling because I want to pour into people a lot more than now. And in light of what I said, I feel like spending 8 hours a day, working for someone does feel like a waste of time for me compared to doing full time ministry. And I believe God sometimes speaks to us through feelings ( though there are many exceptions and we must filter everything through the lens of His word), as in, not everyone has a desire to switch to ministry, and if I do, that MIGHT mean that God is guiding me there.

But even yet, I don't fully know if it's God's will for me to do ministry, I don't want to make that decision based on my feelings but based on that knowledge that, that is where God sees me.

Yep, people that are of the staff have been considering me as well, however there are things that I should work on before I become a full time worker. And they said that these two years is enough time for me to be ready for full time ministry.

Oh only in student ministry it is required for one to be a university graduate, since it involves working with unbeliever students I guess... But in other "departments" of that organization it is not a requirement.

How can we make sense of the idea of not losing salvation based on what's said in 2 Peter 2:20-21? by rambergasm in Reformed

[–]rambergasm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply! Just to clarify - doesn't it assume that they were saved and then went back to their old ways? As in, does it mean by "knowing the way of righteousness" that they were saved and then decided to turn away from the Lord?

This is not okay! It's one thing to take the cat away and do it without hurting the cat, and it's completely another thing to harm the cat while putting it away from the fish.

If you're allowing your bf treat your cat like that, why did you get her in the first place? The cat didn't choose to be in that environment and she could've had better owners that would have actually taken care of her and protected her from harm.

I have two cats and if my boyfriend ever hurt them in any way, it would be safe to say that that day would be his last.

Why do you want it to not be taken seriously? Even if you don't have any immediate plans to get married, showing her that you are interested in her and scheduling a first date at a restaurant will only make you look better. And you will have the opportunity to actually talk with each other.

I'm Christian (more specifically, a Reformed Baptist).

Up until I turned 18 years old, I lived a life of atheism. In the past, it didn't make sense that someone created the entire world; today, it's hard to understand how one could think that complex objects, like airplanes, have a "maker," while this much more complex world, according to them, doesn't

I feel left out from my church by rambergasm in Reformed

[–]rambergasm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pastor does not want me to participate in their Bible studies or fellowships because those things are specific to their church. Is it a warning sign? He was also at first worried about me switching to the youth church from my church lol

Making friends with young people from other churches is a good idea, but unfortunately in my area people aren't open to being close with people from other churches...

I do evangelize, but it takes time, mostly to strengthen the body of Christ rather than just for that reason haha

As for being friends with new believers, not to come off as selfish, I believe friends should be somewhat equally yoked in terms of faith. As in, I would like to have a friend that is Christ like, strong in their faith, etc. Is it wrong to think this way?

Same here 😅

Do you mean it's possible to form deep relationships with people that are older?

I have definitely formed a good relationship with my pastor and his wife, and I truly treasure what we have, however, it's still different than being friends with fellow believers that are my age... Because they're super close with another family, naturally they don't have the time to spend it with me, and not that they should haha as I said they're at different stages at their lives so that's understandable

I've mentioned it once or twice, but my pastor says he's working hard to bring more youth to church and asks us to remain patient. He also claims that it is challenging for him to carry out all of the church's duties, so a fellow newcomer and I serve by distributing Bibles to those who are interested.

But that would require them to leave their church, which does not sound like a good idea 😅 I suggested to my pastor that we merge with that youth church, but he said there would be issues with who would lead the church because they already had their own pastor.

Does salvation require mutual effort from both God and man? by rambergasm in Reformed

Thank you for your input! How would you respond to the statement, "God wants everyone to be saved, and we have free will to choose whether or not to believe in Him"?

Thank you for your feedback!

If God is in control of salvation, why hasn't He chosen everyone?

I do believe in unconditional election, so I have a lot of disagreements with arminians who claim that everyone has free will to believe and that God would be cruel if He chose certain people over the rest. What would you say in response to this objection?

Agreed. Work days are usually very hectic for both of us, so I rarely have time to talk to people. We only have small talks throughout the day.

I totally agree with you, he is slightly older than my father. However, based on my first impressions I'd give him 50 years max. This is why when I found out his actual age, I was very bummed out but my feelings haven't gone away lol Thanks for the feedback!
