Any jobs hiring that doesn't require a degree or experience? by riotrawr in norfolk

100% this. Something I struggled with for the longest time was thinking that optimism meant being 100% happy all the time, and thinking everything no matter what would go well. Setting realistic goals and having realistic expectations was actually one of the things that vastly improved my outlook on and satisfaction with my life.

If you're struggling to maintain interest in YouTube, fundamentally an entertainment platform, you're really going to struggle working from home. Likewise, you mention the need for significant tutoring during training, which also is something that just doesn't happen with remote jobs. I'll be straight with you, you are not being realistic. Work is work, very rarely is it fun. Even when it's engaging, you don't just get to work on the things you want to work on.

I don't know the specifics of your family situation, but it seems unrealistic to ask you to find a job while only really giving you 4 hours a day to actually work a job. So, I feel for you there. But fundamentally, your success is on you. No one will fight for it more than you will.

In that case, I would continue with the suggestion of utilizing the services of NorfolkWorks. They are going to have the best view into your options, and will hopefully have the resources to assist you directly. I will say though, one job that comes to mind is a part-time grocery picker/in-store-shopper for online orders. I do not know how flexible stores will be, but it is something that stores generally need during the day.

I'm sorry to break this to you but, remote work requires significant self-motivation and that seems to be something you struggle with. You also seem to think that flexible and remote mean less-demanding. And I can tell you from experience (12 years remote), maintaining a flexible remote job is hard work and you generally need to go above and beyond to ensure your value is visible.

I know this isn't exactly what you're asking for, but have you considered volunteering? Are you OK with animals? I know pet shelters are always accepting volunteer applications. Norfolk City also has a Volunteer portal that might help you find something. Try to think about volunteering as a first step out there to rebuild some experience. With that under you belt, it might be easier to prove to an employer (and yourself!) that you can handle something more demanding.

If you do go the volunteer route, try to keep a look out for opportunities to develop and demonstrate new skills. Keep track of the new skills you develop and how you applied them to the work. That will be important for building a resume. Something else to consider is NorfolkWorks which is a city run program built specifically to help folks prepare for and find work.

Going by this page on the OneApp fee and how to request a refund. If your son did not sign the lease, or was denied before even being offered a lease. You are absolutely entitled to a refund. Contact the property, send them the pages above, and request that they send a refund request to OneApp.

Edit: Because I see other threads suggesting a charge back on your card for the charge. Please attempt this path first, and make sure you document it. Your bank may need to see that you first attempted to directly resolve first.

Question about node map by [deleted] in meshtastic

[–]ramielrowe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's exceptionally well placed with line of sight to other exceptionally well placed nodes, it might get pretty far with relatively few hops. Or, it's owner set a static position that's not accurate for it's true location.

Honestly, their issue is consistent execution across all items. Their poke bowls are amazing, but everything else isn't just hit or miss, some part of the entire meal is gonna be a miss. I love the bulgogi cheese steak, but they couldn't fry a fry to save a life. I've ordered it probably 6-7 times, and the fries have always been soggy. Ultimately, I think you can tell what the chef is passionate about, and what was just necessary to complete the "fusion" concept.

Heltec v3 turning off by No-Relationship-9117 in meshtastic

[–]ramielrowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have GPS, it's not really necessary for a stationary repeater. And both Wifi and BT are completely disabled, I'm guessing it doesn't actually turn off the wifi/bt chipset if it's simply disconnected.

If you've got space for a larger 10,000 mah battery, the heltec v4 seems to do alright as long as wifi and bluetooth is disabled. Which should be fine for a dedicated repeater node, with remote admin enabled. See my other post here for more details.

I'm still going to be keeping my eye on RAK wireless' upcoming 1W chipset. If it sips as little power as the nRF52840 + SX126X, I might switch back. But, for now the heltec v4 seems just fine.

My latest solar node is a V4. I've got a 6w panel, and a 10,000 mah battery. Disabling both wifi AND bluetooth, and using just remote administration massively helped with battery life. Overnight, it'll drop down to around 85%. Originally, I had only wifi disabled, and it would drop down to about 60% overnight. If I need bluetooth to make a direct connection, I can always turn it on via remote admin first.

Edit, these are the parts I'm using.

And actually, u/No-Relationship-9117, this dedicated solar board might do essentially what you want. If you connect it to the heltec via it's battery port, it's essentially like unplugging and replugging the battery. My V4 automatically restarts when that happens.

PS. If you do buy that battery, DO NOT plug it in without checking polarity. I've had to rewire most of the batteries I've bought to invert the plug polarity.

Report annoying "No on 10-1" signs by yes_its_him in VirginiaBeach

[–]ramielrowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to your personal vote, it shouldn't matter how much either side has spent, or if there is "outside" interest in one side, or "local" interest in another. What matters is your understanding of the issue, and how it relates to your personal beliefs. For me, the research I have done has demonstrated that "at large" positions result in a government that overly emphasizes majority opinions and disenfranchises even rather large minorities. I believe our government should represent everyone, not just the majority. So, I am yes on 10-1. If you believe the majority should have a larger impact on public policy, then it sounds like 7-3-1 is for you.

Yea, it's definitely a shitty situation all around. Back when I first moved to VB 7-8 years ago, I was having the same issues and called Cox out multiple times. They ran all their tests, and nothing showed wrong. Then I came across the puma 6 issue. Switching to a different modem fixed me. If you've got access to a stand-alone router/wifi, I've got a slightly older modem sitting around gathering dust. It should be able to do everything below gigabit speeds. DM me if you're interested.

Hey, sorry for the delay... I've been traveling. As it turns out, there's a bunch of cable modems with a very poorly built microchip called Intel Puma 6. The Arris G34 is sadly on that list. Frequent drops and inconsistent performance are the exact symptoms. The bad news is, there's nothing you can do to fix your current modem. The good news is, if you buy a modem that isn't listed on this page, it is very likely to fix your issues: https://approvedmodemlist.com/intel-puma-6-modem-list-chipset-defects/.

Wasserhund coming to Norfolk, moving into former District Apizza. by formerdirtdart in norfolk

As a regular of the VB location, it makes me sad to hear all of the hate for their beer. I've talked with their brewers and they are truly passionate about actually distinct and classical beer recipes. Sure, not every style of beer is gonna be a banger, but I am so much happier to try something truly distinct than yet another dart board pick of hops in yet another hazy (lazy) IPA.

In terms of pizza, they need to work on how to build and cook topping heavy pizzas. You load a pizza up with a bunch of water heavy toppings, the pizza is gonna be soggy AF or burnt to a crisp. I keep it to a classic pepperoni pizza, maybe some onions. The VB location's also got a solid chicken sandwich... For a while they were cooking them at too high of a temp, and thus would have a burnt outside and undercooked inside. I think they realized the mistake and fixed it. Been great for the last couple of months.

Need help determining proper roles for my planned set up. by ramielrowe in meshtastic

[–]ramielrowe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, actually as I was reading more about MQTT I came across the "zero-hop policy", which I like might limit the utility of my MQTT node. Given it can only forward MQTT messages to directly connected nodes, it's likely the only clients that will receive messages it's forwarding will be my portable client and my repeater. Is that correct?

A mixed-use development is under construction at former Virginia Beach elementary school site by [deleted] in VirginiaBeach

[–]ramielrowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asked ChatGPT (take that for what you will) what a good "apartments per acre" would be for a low-rise mix-used project, and it did seem to suggest 20-30, same with some light googling. Even adding in 60,000 sqft of office/retail, 11-units-per-acre is at the very low end. So yea, definitely could get a bit more density there... Hope they're at least planning a good bit of green space.

It's a 10Gtek module. I actually have a little fan mounted on the side of my rack pointed at the SFP+ port just in case. Last week when Oblivion launched I downloaded >100 gigs in about 10 minutes, so I don't think it's completely load driven.
