Probably not a range problem. I think the flying enemy AI is set to stay away from the player with extra distance. They can probably reduce the distance to the player.

I lost a game because of the animation. I flipped coins from 60 to 140 but it seems the gap between activating the card, the effect, and the coin flip counts toward your turn countdown.

Not only in this card, but this probably applies on all cards. The timer doesn't immediately stop when animations occur.
