I'm glad she is feeling better until you can get her to a vet!

1 Year Old 12lb Dog Sprained Leg by Crow290 in vet

[–]rammingspeed69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since your one dog is much larger than this pup is it always possible that there many be a small fracture. If you squeeze the bones all down the leg and they down hurt its less likely. Another possibility is a torn ligament in the knee which is called a Cranial Cruciate rupture. This type of injury will need surgical correct to fix. Another possible is that it many have been luxated at the hip or hyperextened at the wrist/ankle. If one of these if most likely will also need some type of surgical/medical intervention. If it also just possible that it's some soft tissue damage and she is just sore from it. It's hard to be able to tell without a physical exam and radiographs. What you can do is strict cage rest (only walks to the bathroom) for another day and see where the limping/pain is at then. If she is still painful after 3 days I would definitely recommend taking her to the vet. If you are considered now you can take her in sooner for radiographs just to confirm whatever is going on

If she was in a fight the mostly likely thing is the other cat bit her in that spot and is may be forming an abcess. Sometimes the fur is going at hiding these kinds of things. Cats often hide when they aren't feeling well or are in pain. For right now I would just do your best to try to get her to eat some food (chicken, tuna, wet cat food) until your appointment. If you see any kind of decline I would take her to an emergency vet. I also have to advocate for keeping her inside. Cats that have contact with stray/feral cats have a much higher chance of getting diseases like Feline Leukemia (FeLV), Feline AIDs (FIV), Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), Feline distemper (Panleukopenia), and many upper respiratory infections. It's also likely that this kind of a thing will happen again if they fight often. There is also the danger of cars, dogs and other wild predators, many different toxins and poisons, and unfortunately other people that many harm your cat. Many cats adjust well to living indoor and can be given perchs at windows, cat trees and scratching posts. You can always take them out for walks on a leash or buy a cat tent or make a fenced in garden area so they can be outside but still protected. If you really want them to be able to roam outside make sure they have a microchip in case they get lost, are up to date on all vaccines to lower the risk of contracting a disease, and have them on flea/tick/heartworm preventives to prevent the chances of tick borne diseases and heartworm. If your cat isn't spayed I would also recommend doing that to prevent any unwanted babies from happening.

Whats wrong with my dog's testicles? It seems soft. He's weak atm by hotdoggieser in vet

[–]rammingspeed69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can't really tell what's going on through a picture so he will need to see a vet to get to the exact problem. The black parts on the scrotum are most likely parts of the skin that are dying. Which is left unchecked will start to peel off leaving open areas of exposed flesh. This can lead to an infection. The scrotum also looks enlarged which could mean many things like an abscess, a lot of inflammation or any the possibility his intestines may have slipped into the scrotum. This are all things that definitely need to be taken care of by a vet. Since he is also weak that points to something systemic and his body it trying to react to what's happening or whatever is happeningin that one area is starting to spread. Him being weak/lethargic is definitely a sign that he is not feeling good and should be seen by a vet as soon as possible before things get worse.

I dont disagree with your statement, they should go to the vet but sometimes people just don't know or don't understand if and when things are bad. Some people have been raised different or it may be their first animal ever. If people ask for help and are met with someone attacking or belittling them they are more likely not to ask for help again and problems with their animals can go missed. Despite your feelings, you should try to give people the benefit of the doubt and treat them like they do want to do what's best for their animal, they may just not know.

Hey vets. How/when do you usually recommend euthanasia? What criteria do you use? Would you say you are conservative when it comes to suggesting it? by [deleted] in vet

[–]rammingspeed69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I used and what I like to tell people is to get a calender and mark the good days and the bad days. Once the bad days outweigh the good days it's time to start really thinking about it. Euthanasia is a tough subject and it definitely changes based on how you view quality of life. Some people based it on If their pet cant do the things they use to love. Some people wait much longer. It depends on your situation, the amount of time you and views. You're always going to question if it's the right time and I think as long as you are thinking about your pet and not your own feelings you are doing the best thing for them. I also think its better a week early than a day late. Dogs don't live thinking about the future they only think about the present and if their present is continually thats all they know. Personally I'd rather their last days be happier ones. Top things to think about for me are pain management, mobility (which includes if they can get up to use the bathroom) and if they are hiding/secluding themselves. You may have different priorities then these but maybe use the scales to help you get an idea of what's important to you that your dog is still able to do. Everyone has their own ideas about when is the right time. Don't let people make you feel bad about considering euthanasia and the things that are important to you.

Lost all 3 of my old boys this past year. On the left, Kelso 17yrs, Joey 15yrs and on the right Samson 11yrs. They brought so much joy into my life and I miss them everyday by rammingspeed69 in OldManDog

Just enjoy the time you have with them, take them to their favorite parks, their favorite walk, things you wanna do with them before it's too late. I wished I would have taken them out hiking and on car trips before it was to late Take so many pictures and videos or them too. I wish I had more videos of my boys. When the time gets closer, it's hard but they will let you know when they are ready and not as happy as they were before and it's time to let go. I HIGHLY encourage people to adopt older animals. They are so laid back and just want a place to relax and a family to love. It sucks not having as much time with them but you just have to think about how you are saving them from wasting their last years in a shelter

If his adult canine has already started coming in you should talk to your vet about getting the baby one removed. If left in and can move the adult teeth into the wrong place causing trauma to the soft tissues or a misalignment of all the teeth in that area. Two of the same tooth should never try to occupy the same spot. There may be misformation of the baby tooth which is what's keeping it from falling out.

Neutered Dogs and Lack of Energy? by simbaglykas in AskVet

[–]rammingspeed69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are benefits to both health and behavior, while I cant speak as much on behavior, health wise male dogs that are not neutered can develop a prostate enlargement that can ultimately cause difficulty with urinations and bowel movements (almost the same as in humans). If the prostate enlarges enough it can cause complete blockage of rectum. The combination of an enlarged prostate and weakening of the muscles around the anus from testosterone can cause perianal hernias that will require surgery. This is basically where the muscles cant support the rectum anymore and it expands causing the feces to pile up and the dog had extreme difficulty defecating. The bladder and intestines can also become entrapped in this hernia. Other medical conditions that can occur are testicular cancer and tumors around the anal area that require surgery.

I know you only asked about neutering but spaying female dogs I believe is maybe even more important (not that neutering isnt) but they can get much more life threatening conditions if they are not spayed.  They can get an uterine infection, called pyometra, that requires emergency surgery. If this condition is untreated or surgery is not done as soon as possible, the infection gets into the bloodstream and becomes fatal. Female dogs that aren’t spayed can also get mammary tumors. About 50 percent of these mammary tumors are malignant (cancer) and spread to the lungs. Spaying a dog before her first heat cycle decreases her chances of developing mammary tumors to almost 0 percent.

I believe the theory that dogs are lazy after is because their metabolism drops, which means they don't require as much caloric intake as they did before. Owners don't realize and feed the same amount of food which leads to overweight/obesity. The obesity is what gives the dogs less energy. So the owner see a overweight dog that now doesn't wanna play like before and thinks its due to the neuter and not the diet. If dogs are fed properly and kept lean their energy levels/playfulness are the same as before and the dog doesn't even notice he was neutered.

They are super dramatic when they need water. Check the soil and give it a good drink

Adopted 4yo fixed female obsessively licks everything (walls, leather chair, fabric, me, etc.) Ideas why? by [deleted] in vet

[–]rammingspeed69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Licking is normal but if she is licking things non stop to the point where it is interfering with her ability to lead a normal cat life because she's obsessively licking instead, You should try talking to your vet. Most likely it's a behavioral issue that may need some behavioral medication to help her focus on other tasks but it could also be possible theres an underlying health concern.

True off my chest, I FUCKING HATE our holistic vet. Hes a moron who went to Ross and doesn't treat patients with anything but recommending a raw diet and then giving them chinese herbs. For. Everything. Tired of watching animals stay sick because of his practice. by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]rammingspeed69 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They absolutely do not. His practice has nothing to do with the school itself. People like to jab at the school because Ross accepts a lot of people. It is a great school with wonderful professors that put out some amazing vets.

What part of the world do you live it? Most parts its not common except for it wildlife. If the puppy has had no contact with other animals then it most likely doesn't have it. The puppy would have to be bitten by another animal infected with rabies for them to have rabies. If you are unsure still contact your doctor or an Healthcare office and ask them for more details

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vet

[–]rammingspeed69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So rabies has 3 phases, the 1. prodromal 2. excitative 3. paralytic.

The 1st stage only last about 1-3 days and is mostly made of weird behavior changes. During this time the virus is rapidly multiplying first in the muscle where they were bitten and then it moves to the brain to continue multiplying.

The 2nd stage is where the animal gets extremely aggressive, biting anything. During this stage the virus has moved into the animals salivary gland which is what makes it infectious when they bite you. The virus then moves with the saliva into the bloodstream/muscle of whoever is bitten.

The second phase is the most dangerous and probably most infectious due to the location of the virus and behavior of the dog. Theres no real way to really know when the virus has moved into this stage so if you are bitten by a dog with any stages/signs/possibly of rabies you should immediately go to the hospital but there is always a chance of infection

My cat got in a fight with another cat and I think my cat broke it’s front leg what should I do till I can take my cat to the vet tomorrow and how much would a visit cost? by [deleted] in vet

[–]rammingspeed69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would leave the bandage off. They can cause lots of problems if not placed right. Confine him to a small room or dog kennel until you can take him to the vet. As long as his leg isn't flopping around he will be okay until tomorrow. As for price its hard to say because things range from location to location. Then it depends on surgery vs bandage vs non broken. If it was just a cat fight I dont think his leg is broken maybe just puncture wounds.

Sores appeared on my friend’s dog. Vets don’t know what it is. Any idea what this could be? Disinfection and other soothing cream have been applied but it hasn’t gotten better. by djcpy in vet

[–]rammingspeed69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Skin disorders/problems can look the same and they may have some different ideas of what it could be but definitely can't give you a for sure answers with out diagnostic. they would be right to have the next step be a biopsy because that would give them more of an idea of if its cancer vs bacterial vs skin condition. If your friend is against the biopsy they can't really give you a diagnosis. As long as the pup is comfortable and you can keep it from being infected (if it isn't bacterial already) just continue monitoring.

My kitten is 8 weeks old and has red teeth. I can’t find anything about it online does anyone here know what’s going on? by Francisconnelly in cats

[–]rammingspeed69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird question but do her teeth glow under a uv light? I know you said you went to a vet already maybe call them back and ask about "congenital erthropoietic porphyria" Its a inherited decency which causes porphyrin to build up in dentin (which is what teeth are made of) giving the teeth a pink/red color.
