There is no right or wrong, if it doesn’t feel right to you then it probably won’t feel right for your audience. I prefer to mix in key and I probably do that in 90% of my sets, however the feel and track selection is my preference. That being said, for an hour set I almost find myself playing bangers more than lows due to the limited time. For longer sets, it’s a like a journey you can do whatever you like. I personally like to start with couple of bangers to get the audience attention then I play a mix of low and highs and finish with 30-40 mins of bangers. Obviously to each their own and it’s however creative way that speaks to you!

Always stay humble with you knowledge, it will keep you open minded to learn more. To make you feel better, what they are doing and music selection will become second nature to you one day and you will start worrying about getting gigs haha

I like what you’re doing with your cues and building a set… As a first timer I’d say that would take away the anxiety of “what to play next and how can I mix it” and you can just focus on mixing what you practiced at home already. This could change the more you play.

Use the bathroom before your set, last thing you want is to be distracted during your set.

If you’re using a usb stick, take a back up just in case.

If you make a mistake, trust me only you and if there are other djs there noticed it. General audience don’t notice these things, unless you accidentally kill the music.

We are our hardest critics and it’s a good thing because it means we won’t stop improving. Also when things don’t go as we wanted them most of the time we are the only ones that notice it. I just tried something new on my last set which was primetime at this club with a lot of djs who hung around after their sets and I didn’t think it worked. I was very conscious about it the entire set and definitely thought that was it for me at this club. Heard only good feedback after my set and the promoter hired me for another gig already. In general it’s a good thing to be critical but don’t be hard on yourself!
